RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. Send me a message if you'd like to keep in touch with me & Steve.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Fine... I'll take four flasks of whiskey to go. One for each of us. Would everyone like that? I hope the tenner will cover it. -John

Really, I think it does make sense to have a method of determining/approving some actions and events in the absence of the GM after a certain period of time. This would provide a challenge for the GM, but also keep things moving along when he's not able or interested in responding.

The exact rules for how that would work, if you guys are interested in some such rules, would have to be hashed out.

On another note, it might be interesting to allow some inserted events, perhaps pseudo-randomly generated. I've got all kinds of ideas when I start really thinking about this. But I can step back out of the universe and leave it to y'all. Razz

(I have to say that was fun, though, trying to figure out what event to create... in a short amount of time.)

Also, good point. If I'm not around for too long a period of time, SubCulture and Chanku can fight over who gets to provide encounters in my place.

Okay, scene reset. The four characters are in the bar and have just been handed their whiskey. Do they exit? Do they stay in?)

Gwen: "Here, you can hand me that Isle five you have there and I'll give you twenty-five Trinity dollars, less the cost of a couple bottles of vodka."

The drunken, dark-suited vagrant, after recovering from Hamilton's odd distraction, steps up to the bar and mumbles.

Elsie: "We told you, we can't serve you anything; you don't have any money and you keep harassing the paying customers. Don't make us call security again."

The vagrant continues speaking incoherently, but his mumbles become loud and hostile exclamations.

(02-08-2014 02:32 PM)DoA Wrote:  Elsie: "If you could do something that would be great. This is the part where he tries to destroy public property."

The vagrant turns to face the Lone Wanderer. His eyes are milky-white, and he squints intimidatingly at the double vision of the Wanderer in front of him. He begins to raise his voice and swing his arms about.

Game Session 1, continued, Recap:

The Lone Wanderer orders vodka. Before Elsie can process his request, a drunken vagrant wanders into the inn. Hamilton finds and throws a breadstick at the vagrant, momentarily distracting him, while the Wanderer speaks to the innkeepers.

It's revealed that the cash the Wanderer has on him is the cash of the Old World, and has a higher value than the post-apocalyptic Trinity dollar. Gwen advises that he hold onto it for safekeeping; he might well be rich.

The confused Lone Wanderer attempts to find an alternative means of payment, muttering something about a device known as a "credit card", and finds some Old World dollars of lesser value. Gwen takes his Isle five and hands him about twenty Trinity dollars and two bottles of vodka, a fair trade.

Meanwhile, the vagrant attempts to order a drink, but is too drunk to speak clearly. Elsie demands that he leave, to which he takes noisy offense.

The Lone Wanderer offers to help while John approaches the vagrant nicely. The vagrant becomes hostile, knocking John to the floor while Gwen quietly slips the Wanderer a firearm blank. The Lone Wanderer loads his new gun with the blank and aims it at the vagrant while John gets up and pulls his new gun as well. The two threaten the vagrant and demand he leave or be killed.

The vagrant, confused by the men pointing guns at him, stands frozen until the Wanderer fires his blank. The drunkard flees the inn never to return, and the innkeepers reward the party by giving the Wanderer some extra firearm blanks, free of charge. They then ask if the party can stay and act as security guards, and it is then that the Lone Wanderer reveals to the audience that he has suffered brain damage and memory loss.

One of the other party members gets him back on track by explaining the objective. Before leaving the inn, the party quietly tips the innkeepers, then slowly walk toward the Old Citadel.

That is where the first game session ends.

Public Service Announcement: First world problems are still problems.

Pretty Much my only signature...I'm mainly a lurker....you can find me on the IRC (or on DnE and their IRC).
