Hello I'm new here! I discovered this site when one day I arrived from school and I thought "gosh I'm tired" really really tired , studying!
My lovely day consists on taking care of my cat , I always kiss him after and before school my cat is spiritual takes my negativity so I go to school with a lot of energy to spend then I have good grades.
I'm 16 years old (soon 17) , have a lot of friends , and I love school !
Why you guys don't love ? I go to school mainly to be with ma friends . okay I confess I don't like school but you need school to grow up ya know ? without school has no chance to be someone .
I think everyday if I don't study ---- work in mcdonalds!

No, I don't need school to grow up. I feel every day I'm being indoctrinated against my will and not only that but school is seriously affecting my mental and physical health. A lot of shit has been going through my mind, and not only that, I haven't been eating enough or drinking enough water. Thanks, school. I'm certain that's a part of growing up!

I don't hold a job for the moment. I might be working in the summer time, though recently my life's been eaten by stress.

I'm stressed about that because some don't have good grades and then people don't have job and complain about that

ouh and I will say , I went here because I may love school but I am human and I understand the reasons why you don't like : sometimes is boring and I begin nervous at tests and more. But you have to get over it

Yeah, school is boring as shit, but that's not the only reason I hate school, though.

I hate school because of the lack of choice I get: I have no say in whether I wish to attend, neither do I have a say in which subjects I wish to take (well, for the most part, at least). Even when I go to get "educated", I have no right to question what the teacher says, or else I'll be scolded, regardless of whether I'm right or wrong. If I wish not to attend, I and my parents will be arrested, and even if I decide to drop out, I'll be stigmatized by society because I couldn't handle any more high school.

It's not nearly as simple as "you have to get over it". For some, like me, and many others, it's just far too difficult to just "get over it".

Hi, and welcome to School Survival.

I think it's worth breaking the concept of "school" into three major parts:

(1) learning things, developing skills, and having meaningful experiences ("education")
(2) getting a diploma or degree to represent what you know and have done ("credentials")
(3) being in a place where you can interact with friends and meet new people

It's possible to do part (1) in ways beyond traditional school. Many people learn things on their own, through studying online, by collaborating on projects with others, on-the-job, and even by conversations like this one. Some schools are even set up to support those things without coercion and boredom! But many of us find and pursue these things more outside of school than in it.

Part (2), credentials, is one of the key things school and college provide that can sometimes be hard or impossible to replicate. However, many kinds of work don't require those credentials. Even many high-paying and enjoyable jobs are based more on what you know, what you can demonstrate and do (like with a portfolio of your work), or who you meet and get to know, than any formal credential. There are also some ways to get formal credentials without traditional school -- including high school (the GED and other ways to get a diploma, like homeschoolers/unschoolers often use.) Even at the college level, some colleges are experimenting with awarding degrees without requiring traditional class time... and many colleges accept people who haven't gone through traditional school (including unschoolers.)

For part (3) socializing and meeting people, this can happen in a lot of ways beyond formal school... including the Internet, workplace settings, social groups, interest-based meetups, and even classes that focus on specific subjects.

Overall, it's worth keeping in mind that there isn't just one way that "school" can work. Most schools around the world use what some call a "factory model" paradigm, where students are processed and taught in a one-size-fits all manner. Some other schools are more based on individual student interests and choices... but many people on these forums don't have access to those kinds of schools, and don't have the option of unschooling due to family constraints.

Personally, I dropped out of high school and got a GED, started college a year early, then after a little over a year of college, I realized that wasn't working so well for me either. Ever since, I've been trying to figure out a way to better learn and help others learn. But, over the past couple years in particular, a LOT of people are questioning how most school works, including educators. The New School Creation course in my signature has a bunch of educators who want to start new schools that work differently, for example.

And, there are many talks online about these topics. Ken Robinson has several. Changing Education Paradigms, also in my signature, is a good place to start.

Look guys school is going to just be the beginning. Are government is racist and selfish we are slaves the only difference is we don't have chains.
