RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Dreading School

Ugh. I am dreading school tomorrow....I have to get a project on King Solomon done by tonight and present it tomorrow morning(First period). It's also an Odd day, and I didn't do the homework(which is usual for me(it actually ticked off the teacher when I didn't do my work, but did good on the midterms)). We had a half-day today, but with the weather, my dad decided to keep us home. -_- Ugh I'm dreading school and tomorrow more than I have before.

Yeah, I know how it is. Paradoxically, the more days I spend away from school, the more I dread going back. :(

Yeah, me too. Elementary school was enjoyable. Middle school was challenging. High school is bullcrap. Looking back, so were middle and elementary school.

Oh boy, this brings back rather less than fond memories....... I remember how I essentially pissed away an entire summer over wanting to go back to fucking school.

That was back in summer 2012. I remember I had a crush on a different girl (she didn't like me back, it ended rather ugly, and that door has closed, and no, I definitely do NOT want to re-open it), and I wanted to go back and keep in contact with her, alongside with many other friends. Oh, and I need to remind you I finished 9th grade on a freshman campus. By 10th grade I couldn't find half my friends.....

I was also coming off a 3.5 GPA year, so you could say I kinda (gulp) enjoyed school..... though to be fair, I was pretty good at the time obeying commands for whatever reason. My eyes were closed to the clear indoctrination. It took a bad year for that to open my eyes, though.

On topic: I understand perfectly. Those big-ass projects and presenting them. It's worse when you have to wear formal clothing..... I do not like wearing shirts with buttons, for whatever reason.

Ugh, I kinda just wanna stay home. I'm a night person.

I started school a year-early, so it has a bit more of a hold on me still.

Preach, preach, even if it's to the choir. I'm also a night person.

I mean I still sometimes like school. Also my actions and what I have done, also shows that it has a bit of a hold on me, in a sense. Hell on Fridays I still sing the 'Friday song' Which was a song that was sung at my elementary school on Fridays.....I went through that for 6 years(until middle school). Also I'm more energetic during the night as well. I have more freedom in the night at times.

Quite. I still get in the habit of demonstrating school spirit (and it's technically true that my school is the best in the area, although a best prison contest is hardly inviting, really) and I'm a loyal member of my school's newspaper and dedicated student assistant for my grade level's principal. I'm sort of a guardian of good order in an institution bound by evil order and filled with neutral chaos.

To be honest, I'm more neutral, while I show some school-spirit, I don't mind it that much. Although I have a friend who sees the BS of school, and we are actually getting a few other friends to see as well....

I never demonstrated school spirit or what not. I mean, it's somewhat fun to see some strange and wacky shit go on like Spirit Week, but pep rallies and all those other large gatherings.... ugh.

Gah. Reading any thread in this section of SS is driving me nuts. School's starting again in two days and I'm flipping shit over anxiety and ugh I can't describe this but you all know the feeling.

I tried to escape the most recent pep rally, but it didn't work too well. I hate those.

Sure, I might internalize some degree of pride in my school, but that's simply because I have to adapt to my surroundings. I know in my heart how evil it is, and figure it isn't worth it to raise controversy by doing my jobs as an article writer or hall pass deliverer incorrectly. I still try to fight as a human being, though - I have two friends who know the truth about the public school system and are equally encouraged to take action.
