RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Hey!

I like milk.

But god dammit it's expensive. I would drink so much milk if it was cheaper.

Hey!

You can find Mexican Coke literally anywhere where I live (Cali). Also, does that same Pizzeria have Penafiel? It's a popular brand of mineral water in Mexico that's pretty much what the rural folks in Mexico drink as opposed to Sprite.

Hey!

It's currently $3.25 a gallon here. It changes pretty often though. One day it's $3.69 or $3.80, others it's at the current price. Average seems to be $3.50.

I like milk quiet a lot, but since humans are generally lactose intolerant(most mammals are only meant to digest milk during the breast-feeding milking stage. After that, our bodies ability to digest lactose goes down, though that generally depends on certain factors. Supposedly the danes who have been drinking milk for so long pretty much maintain their ability to digest lactose at the same level or close to that of the period of breastfeeding, whereas groups who never really relied on milk can have deadly effects if they take in lactose.)

I can probably drink...half a quart, before I get bloated and gassy, with diarrehea. It's not a deadly effect, but it does mean I'll be heavily contributing to global warming, and need to remain within distance of a bathroom for some time.

Hey!

I can generally drink milk without much problems except perhaps a little gas, but that's as bad as it gets. Actually, milk's quite useful for me to "cleanse" my colon if that makes any sense. My bowels actually can digest quite a lot of stuff. The only thing it can't are Fiber One bars and I'd imagine surstromming and lutefisk would be on that list as well. Probably the only think discouraging me from going to Scandinavia.

Hey!

I guess you're more genetically prepared to digest lactose.

I could drink an entire quart, but I believe I later end up increasing the flammability of the house. Lighting a fire near me after I drink that much milk, would be a very bad idea. I'd probably get intestine rumbling diarrhea too. And the effects would definitely last longer(probably much of the day).

But I've been drinking milk for quite a while. At least 15 years.(I wonder how that's contributed to my bones). Recently my mother has us drinking the low-fat 2% milk. I've grown used to it's taste, but the normal milk always tastes better.

Hey!

Ever tried almond milk? I have, it's actually pretty decent. Not only that, it doesn't give you any of the gas that regular milk has (lest you have an allergic reaction to almonds).

Hey!

I don't know what I am allergic to. I've yet to figure out if I have an issue with bee stings(I'd rather not get stung).

My father buys almond milk and lactose free milk since he can't handle lactose that well anymore(I believe with age, you lose even more of your tolerance). It wasn't that bad, but I still prefer normal milk for as long as I can.
