RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Agh.. this is terrible. Nobody cares, yeah. But like. I cried.

I'm just so happy this finally happened.

Not only did I finally get under 180 pounds after 2 years of trying, but I got under my previous lowest weight of 170 and I'm now at 165.

One Sixty fucking five.

And it literally... just.. happened.

Some time in November or maybe a little earlier it's like a switch in my body flipped and suddenly I could lose weight easily. I noticed when i had lost almost 10 pounds and i wasn't doing much of anything different. And then over christmas i gained 2 pounds. and then in what seems like no time at all, i lost that PLUS 5 more pounds.

I'm just really really happy.

Weight has always been a really big issue in my life. I've always been the fat kid. It sucks.

Idk what happened to flip that switch in my body, but i'm happy it happened.

Like literally my confidence has just skyrocketed.

It's actually lit a fire under my bum. To get shit together. Yeah, the weight is melting off me now, but who knows how long this sudden change in my body will last.

besides, I've still got 15 pounds until goal #1

I give a shit. A good state of a body is a good state of mind, at least most of that time.

Keep reaching more goals. Things like this really help you feel better about yourself.

RE: I know nobody will give a shit, but I'm so happy about this..

Complete stats for anyone who's actually interested.

Height: 5'3 (or 5'4 idk)

Highest weight: 210 (that was miserable for me, luckily it also came off fairly easily until I hit 180)

Current weight: 165

Lowest weight: 165!

first goal: 150

second goal: 130

It's possible i'll go less than that, however.. being big boned does exist.

current waist: 33.5
Current hips: 42.25

Total inches lost form waist in the past 90 days: 3.5
And from my hips in 90 days: 1.75

Good job. Smile You talked about not being stressed nearly as much as you were in school in another post (I don't really feel like looking for it to quote) but do you think this is related to your weight loss?

RE: I know nobody will give a shit, but I'm so happy about this..

I started actually around when the stress went away.

The only way I can explain it is I've repayed all my bad karma. I know some people don't really believe in karma, but I do. So that's how i explain it.

But that's just a spiritual explanation. I'm sure there's also some actual explanation for it somehow.

A bit after taking the GED and then just some other personal like things just falling into place. It was just kind of like everything felt better. I haven't felt particularly stressed out in a while. I haven't even had to urge to cut myself in a really long time for how I have been the past few years.

And that's pretty much when the sudden ease of weight loss happened..

Wow, holy crap! Good for you!

Indeed; your emotional state can greatly affect your physical state, and the lack of stress might have made weight loss easier on you. I'm quite glad to hear you're feeling better Smile

I know nobody will give a shit, but I'm so happy about this..

In most of your posts you seemed to be so despondent, overwhelmed, and melancholy. Stress had really gotten the best of you, but I saw a glimmer of hope that suggested that it wasn't going to last forever.

This is so heartwarming because, well, this is the happiest I've seen you. Here's hoping that the happiness is here to stay Smile

Don't feel like creating a new thread.

Today I completed a 30-minute workout with my weights. I plan on doing 2 a day and only 2 days a week, since muscles grow when they are relaxed. I decided to take the advice of improving my physical health.

I think one reason I'm not really "working out" is because I seem to find it dull.
Fitness to me should be actively engaging. Perhaps a sort of obstacle course. Practice your agility as you tone your body.
Most likely because I'm more on the "agile" then "strength" side.

Congrats on the weight loss. It's a pesky thing. Must've been easier back when living was a physical struggle. Oh and bashing people in the head with a sword, or gutting them with one, generally took more muscle and speed. Now even our weapons do the work for us.

RE: I know nobody will give a shit, but I'm so happy about this..

I started working out as well. Found my one rep max in a few things.

3 pushups (that's the most I can do at once)
105 squats (I can do more, but they get SOOOO boring. But I could probably do 120-150)
72 crunches
19 second plank
repeat.

I've wanted to start jogging/running for a while. But I don't have the right shoes. it's not good for you to run in DCs. And I need a sports bra... Like. I need a sports bra. A nice one.. in my size.. that works. Those go for around $50-$100
(fuck, ANY bra in my size goes for $50-$100)

RE: I know nobody will give a shit, but I'm so happy about this..

I cant really reach my full potentials unless Im alone...which means my motivation for working out is pretty non-existant as long as Im living at home(my home atm). I can think of doing, but there never really the firing of the nerves there. If I dod manage to do it, its like a fad. I dont continue.

At least I am physically active. Do lots of stretching and some muscle exertion. Swinging a stick around like a sword, and acting like your in combat, is pretty tiresome after a while. Plus Ive gotten aches in parts of my body I never thought possible. I wont be losing weight anytime soon like this, but at least Ill be doing some physical stuff, working on my agility, and pratice various techniques of beating people up.

RE: I know nobody will give a shit, but I'm so happy about this..

I actually enjoy working out. It makes me feel like I'm doing something. Idk why I never seem to stick to it. At least now I have multiple forms of motivation (the weight loss and the certain special person).

I also happen to enjoy feeling sore. It's a weird sense of satisfaction when getting out of bed is painful.

RE: I know nobody will give a shit, but I'm so happy about this..

Yeah. Those sores and aches actually have a strangely pleasant feel to it.

Using a treadmill can create weird sensations however. Especially where it feels like floor beneath you is still moving even though you're standing still. Its fun though. Course cant really use the treadmill or run at all, as I dont have the proper shoes to do it with.

The longest consistant work out(excluding those less-of-an-official-workout agility practices) was a week. I did used to go to Martial Arts many years ago. 2.5 years of pretty much daily 1-2 hour sessions of exercise, training and sparring. That time was probably what kept me from getting too over weight, having been so physical. Im thinking of starting again but I cant decide on a Martial Art or activity(like Fencing. Id love to do some Fencing. Aikido also doesnt sound so bad.)
