I have some ideas, particularly since I'm enrolled in a course on "New School Creation."

But first, why a dictatorship?

Then again I seem to possess a sort of natural characterstic of being politically mischevious. It just comes to me(most likely a subconscious organization and interpretation of data Ive collected or come across. So when I say comes to me, it simply means the knowledge exists but consciously Im unable to put it together thus it feels like I know without knowing)

I love seeing such a large formation of troops organize up like that for war. It always sends a surge of electric throuhout my body. Feels good(feels like electric. From what Ive been able to learn, its most likely just me sensing the release of dopamine in my body)

However, the more Genre Savvy characters you have in a scenario, especially with modern tools like the Internet, global context, "characters" who are out and about trying to improve the world, and so on, there's a lot of pressure on those running or seeking to run dystopias.

In North Korea's case, the regime was installed by the Soviets, and they've received backing from China, which likes the buffer from the west. Without that backing from China, and Soviet-erea infrastructure, they'd have major problems, even beyond what they have. And, China isn't happy with some of North Korea's troublemaking.

Meanwhile, while the North Korea/South Korea border is basically impermeable, North Korea's border with China is a lot more porous. People make their way out, and tell their stories, and smuggled goods, electronics, and foreign TV shows make their way in.

Likewise, regimes like North Korea face pressure to modernize, such as by adopting mobile phones. Doing so offers them advantages, but it also opens up the potential for all kinds of communication that can be hard to track.

This gets into the question of how you'd even go about running a dictatorship in a hyperconnected age, unless you have backing for some kind of geopolitical reasons. And then, you have to please your allies, or risk losing their support.

Here's a 20m documentary on people launching propaganda balloons into North Korea. People who get the payload of these balloons, or otherwise find messages of what it's like outside the country, pose a threat to that "PR facade" that's part of what keeps the regime in place. Just like the war on drugs, it's hard to stop something like that, especially as technology makes it easer (USB drives instead of DVDs, etc.)

So, going back to the topic of this thread, what kind of dictatorship would you have in mind? If you had a school, and ran it, what would you do? What kind of rules, structure, PR facade, and all that? What would you do with your power, and how do you imagine others would react?

Set up an oligarchy. Get some influential fat cats that have a lot of people who owe them, and work together to expand your collective influence over the world. Do it like the corporations.
