RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

What's anything positive that could happen if we're forcing ourselves to talk with people that we dislike?

Nobody wants to be friends with people they don't like. Fuck you.

Funny... Thing is, national safety isn't at stake here. Nor is our own safety. Perhaps if it were, it'd be sufficient motivation to talk.

And since when is not talking a fucking "problem"?

EDIT: Added more stuffz.

Where the hell did that analogy come from?

(01-07-2014 12:27 PM)stephen926 Wrote:  Well then TRY to talk to others. Try. I mean, what's the worst that can happen. Do something. You guys are not even doing anything to make friends/talk to others. Did the U.S not try to do anything when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? No! So just try to overcome your problems.

I can tell you're an extrovert, a people person, a Chatty Cathy. Am I wrong?

It might not have occurred to you that communication, while important, does not come as easy to some others as it does to you. And by some, I mean about half of any given population; maybe more, if you happen to be more extroverted than average.

For introverts, individual needs are more important than social needs. This is backwards from what you may be accustomed to. Trying to talk to others isn't a huge concern; it's just something that one has to do in moderation. But seemingly trivial things, such as self-reflection and quiet reading, are vitally important aspects of some people's lifestyles. (Not all introverts like that stuff, though.)

Trying to make friends as though you're attempting to collect a lot is a pointless and fruitless endeavor for many. I, for instance, only have a few friends, but they are honest and loyal friends; I can't imagine needing any more at the moment. This isn't a problem any more than having a lot of friends is a problem.

I see that you pity us. You believe we have a problem and might think yourself selfless for trying to help us solve it. While it's true that introversion has caused society to deal us a bad hand, our quiet and reserved natures grant us strengths that make up for our supposed social ineptitude. There's really nothing to fix; we're not inferior, but just different.

Or you could be a manipulative amoeba like me who was originally an introvert(and shy) with a fixed personality but now has a solid core but a totally variable personality in most cases. Sort of a split where now I exist seperately as my human self and a higher conscious self that holds the reins.

Most likely due to my views and beliefs did this seperation occur. Think of it as the Ego identifying itself as a totally individual and unique entity, above that of the human entity it inhabits. The shrinks would probably call me crazy and pump me full of meds...

Hello, traveler.

This is an ancient account I have not used in a long time. My views have changed much in the intervening months and years.

Nonetheless, I refuse to clean it up. Pretending that I've held my current views since the beginning of time is what we in the industry call a lie. Asking people to do so contributes to moralistic self-loathing. "See, those people have nothing damning! I do! I'm truly vile!"

Because you can never be a good person with a single blemish on the moral record, I thought that simply entertaining some thoughts made me irredeemable. Though I don't care for his writing style, William Faulkner presents a good counterexample. He went from being a typical Southern racist to supporting the civil rights movement. These days we'd yell at him for that, probably.

People are allowed to change their views.

Nevertheless, this period of my life has informed some of how I am today. In good ways and bad ways. To purge it would be to do a disservice to history. Perhaps it will not make anyone sympathetic, but it may help someone understand.

If, after reading all this, you still decide to use the post above as evidence that I am evil today, ask yourself if you have never disagreed with the moral code you now follow. In all likelihood you did, at some point. If some questions are verboten, and the answer is "how dare you ask that," don't expect your ideological opponents to ever change their minds.

I freaking hate Physical Education/Gym. It's like the most useless class ever at school.
Other than that, I'm guessing math class and history class, because both are just extremely boring. Easy, but boring. There's also the number of exams that are coming up...I really don't wanna go tomorrow.

I leik being a pyro and spy...in an online hat simulator.

What I'm hating most now that school has started is no more freedom. Adults nowadays say "omg kids never go outside, terrible generation." Oreally, maybe it's because school is controlling what we can and can't do, we can't go outside because we MUST do BS assignments all the time. Now I can't wake up when I want to, sleep when I want to, or do what I want to most of the time.

You're more of a late night person? Fuck you, you're in school now.

You like fun games and talking to people? Fuck you, you're in school now.

You like being accepted by your family for who you are, not what grades you have? Fuck you, you're in school now.

You like learning about what you enjoy learning? Fuck you, you're in school now.

You like freedom? Fuck you, you're in a police state now.

What are you most dreading about school starting again?

Sorry, but school has been starting to get on my nerves a lot more now. I had a 2 week break of nothing but freedom. I got to work with my own mind without some authoritarians trying to control it. Man, I made so many personal log entries on my opinions on various things. When I stepped inside school, I just couldn't take it. I felt nauseous.

RE: What are you most dreading about school starting again?

Also, I dread having the energy sucked out of me everyday. This would get in the way of things I want to do when I get home and mess with my mood.

I'm often anywhere between slightly tired (which is okay) and exhausted when I come home from school everyday. I'm a night person, and once evening falls, I have lots of energy, despite how tired I might have been when I came home. Then I go ahead and do things during the night until I get tired, or until I attempt to fall asleep a little early and end up being awake for hours before I do.

Eventually I will end up sleeping less and less, and I'll come home from school more fatigued than the previous day. Then either the evening rush of energy fails me, my mind is heavily smogged, or I just collapse on my bed from physical exhaustion. Wash, rinse, and repeat. It's tough for me to juggle my sleep patterns with the strict day schedule my school has.

What are you most dreading about school starting again?

Feel the same way every time I get home from school. I feel tired and drowsy and don't feel like doing anything that requires too much energy, and honestly it's been pissing me off. I want to do things like ride my bike and such but school drains so much energy. I was able to enjoy doing such for 2 weeks but unfortunately that time has passed....
