RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Stupid rules that has nothing to do with our education

I am a student from Cyprus and I go to a public school. Well yesterday it was the first day of school and it was THE WORST FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL EVER. I pierced my nose and I have a seamless hoop ring right now. Every teacher was fine with it except one b*tch!! She started bitching about my nose ring and she humiliate me in fron of the whole class. She said: Would you like it if your students had piercings? I'll put you a chain on your ring so I can drag you like a dog. The whole class started laughing and she said to me to go out and remove it. I couldn't remove it and now it's infected -.- I can't get it! We go to school for our ''education'', not for listen the teachers complaining about our appearance!! We are not allowed to: dye our hair, wear makeup, paint our nails, tease our hair, wear to many bracelets and have piercings. We are also forced to wear a uniform(it isn't really bad, but it's a waste of money). Isn't that just stupid? And the teacher who told me to remove my nose ring is always wearing heave makeup, has red highlights and has 3 piercings on each ear and girls in my school are allowed to have only 1 piercing in each ear. Only 1 word: IRONIC!

Yeah, those rules sure has nothing to do with your education. But what do you honestly expect from someone when they are given ridiculous power over you? And there is no need to be a censorfag here.

Re: Stupid rules that has nothing to do with our education

Getting all the students to look the same will encourage them to somehow think the same. If they start letting you express yourself and dress the way you want, that'd only let you think for yourself, and they don't want that. Sadly, the teachers don't even realize the true purpose of dress code is not to get you guys to look "neat and proper" but to force you into a conformist mindset.

My principal is the same way. He's ridiculously obsessed with dress code to the point where he uses the PA system before every class to tell teachers to check if students have tucked their shirts in. The classrooms are freezing, and we can't wear jackets with hoods. Um..does he know how hard it is to find jackets without hoods? And they have to be solid-colored or with the school logo. Nono And we're not allowed to have extreme haircuts, hair colors, or piercings. So today, I went out and got an "extreme" haircut (a bobcut is not that bad), dyed it plum, and got a nose piercing. I didn't do this out of mindless rebellion; I'd been planning this look for a few months now, but there's no way I'm going to let some dumb fatass principal who's oblvious to the real problems of the school tell me how to dress.

This sounds very much like this article that I read about this girl who got her nosed pierced because it was a part of her "religion" supposedly knowing that she wasn't allowed to.

It is unfortunate but she can get in trouble for that incident. The teacher just can't yell at someone just because they have a piercing. I would get a parent and the principal involved in this. This isn't fair to you as a student and I would call it bullying since she is putting you down as a person just to get what she wants.

Re: Stupid rules that has nothing to do with our education

Where I live, most public schools do not have uniforms. However they do have rules like no unnatural hair colors, no short shorts, no low cut tops, nothing that has vulgar or violent things on it, etc... In elementary school, we were only allow to wear plain red, white, blue, khaki, or black clothes. No pictures, or words on the clothing. This was to keep kids from picking on other kids. Everyone wore the same basic things, so that the poor kids, and the wealthy kids wouldn't pick on each other.

wutz an edukaishun

They actually do have a reason for it. The purpose of school isn't to make a better person of yourself, but to make you an obedient citizen to them.

Most teachers aren't aware of this purpose however. They seem to still think that it is actually educating us.

School also has nothing to do with your education, so they can make any rules they want.

Stupid rules that has nothing to do with our education

I've been raising money to dye my hair dark blue, get a third ear piercing, and my first belly piercing.
Fuck the police.

Don't you love bumps that are completely unnecessary?

Congratulations humanity, because you refuse to let go of the old and evolve you actually make people believe in 2012. Not only that, but you're the only species on Earth that were able to make it possible, now we get to sit until we die because we couldn't get to Mars. We have failed as a society and don't deserve our gifts to survive for this long. Maybe this is why dinosaurs are extinct, we sure aren't any better than the dirt you say we're created from. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pla...DvwSOFto#! Noo
