cops searched lockers for weed before winter break

cops came to my middle school before winter break to check the lockers for weed. i know there are a few kids who do weed in my school, so i really don't know what will happen to them. one or two kids ditched school when they heard they were coming.

this one guy got caught for it, which is how it started. the stoners made it really easy to find out. asking for money all the time, flaunting it all over the place.

sheesh. middle school. who would even bring their weed to school?? you may as well be begging to get caught. it's not like it's THAT addictive (i wouldn't know, my brother told me), so since it's illegal you may as well not do it.

if they would just legalize it this stuff wouldn't need to happen. honestly.

Even though they still do the search for drugs crap in California, I wonder how it'll be affected when weed is inevitably legalized here (probably by next November 2014 at the very earliest), though it'll probably be like alcohol.

Bringing weed to middle school sounds just dumb. But what's even more dumb is this War on Drugs shit. It's clogging up our justice system and fucking up our kids because the prison industry convinced the judicial system that people doing weed are on the same level as rapists and serial killers. There's a petition going around on change.com about a father who got a minimum sentence of around 55 years for being caught with weed. Jesus Christ.

Yeah, okay, crack and heroin and meth and such are pretty damn bad. But this is a bad way to fight them.

Yeah, I agree the "War on Drugs" shit is so fucking pathetic. Especially since the youth drug abuse rate has been going down, not up, yet they still feel the need to instill fear on us.

Wow. I recently had a friend expelled for having weed. To be honest the war on drugs is like prohibition. However I'll use a quote from my grandfather, "The government has no right to tell me what I can and can not put in my body." I agree, as long a it doesn't cause harm to others. So if I were to get drunk, that's okay, but if I try to drive, it's not okay as I would endanger and possibly harm others.

There is a perfectly logical reason!

Drug dealers probably make more than police, and thus can afford a winter vacation. So when these dealers are in the Bahamas, the police lose their source of the good stuff.

Thus they rely on whatever they find in lockers. Plus them kids don't know how to smoke the good shit like the 5-0 huh?

All the war on drugs really is, is just a 20 billion dollar waste of money and freedom. Especially for cannabis, that's harmless, and fun. My school searches lockers every damn week, and no drugs have been caught for 2 years, however, students all the time are getting caught outside of school, and disciplined by the admin. Not by parents or the police, but by the school. As if it's any of the schools fucking problem

the kid who got caught for weed a while back didn't get anything done to him, which i guess is good, but it says in our code of conduct or something that you'll get expelled. i don't even think he got an in school suspension.

it's not, and i'm pretty sure they're worse on rapists and murderers than drug possession/dealership.
a father sentenced to 55 years? sheesh, what do they think is worse? a dad having drugs or a kid growing up without one?

The War on Drugs, AFAIK, is related to the school-to-prison pipeline. And that's pretty profitable for the prison industry, not to mention the contractors for the increasingly militarized police. And the police themselves.

I'm fine with the prosecution of drugs other than marijuana, because heroin, cocaine et al. WILL seriously fuck you up and NOT in a good way. I'd say there should be more focus on rehabilitation and community outreach; then again I'd say that of western law enforcement in general.

I hear the Scandinavians (or at least Scandinavians on the internet) have been talking about how the US spends more on prisons than it does on education. Perhaps if we reversed that, we might see things take a turn for the better. There's already been some clamor in Congress about it.

Hypothetically, I have tree in my car, get pulled over, searched and arrested. If I go to treatment, or jail, (I'm almost 18 so let's assume jail) they'll have the nerve to say they're helping me, and how "drugs can ruin your life." Lives get ruined when people are arrested for something that hurts no one.

What pisses me off so much about American penal system and American punishment in general is the perception that the criminal is "scum" and should "rot in hell" and be thrown in prison for the rest of their life, even though with that they're still humans and the fact that this kind of bullshit has lead to prison overcrowding.

Sorry, but the American justice BS has pissed me off a lot lately, especially when countries like Norway and Sweden have progressive prison systems which are based on rehabilitation rather than retribution.

^A problem indeed, especially when some people are jailed for things they didn't even do. Even if they were guilty, jail never redeems them. The US society basically says "If you were a criminal, you're always a scum criminal". If you have imprisonment on your record, there is practically no suitable job available for you. Education will become hard to come by, jobs hard to come by, welfare hard to come by. You literally become treated like a sub-citizen, trash on the streets.

How are people supposed to rehabilitate to a society that both doesn't lend a hand to those trying to climb back out of the hole, and goes so far to step on their fingers and send them back down?

The thing about the imprisonment system is, it's based on a misunderstanding. People do things for reasons, even if those reasons might not be "good " reasons. "Criminals" who are "insane" aren't really insane, they just hate the world and feel no sympathy whatsoever for anyone. If someone goes on some serial killing, they probably felt like everyone they killed deserved to die. The thing is, the incarceration system doesn't try to treat the criminal like a person and tell them how the actions like stealing or assault affected the other person negatively while trying to rehabilitate them, they're treated like some evil demon.
Then the self fullfilling prophecy is fullfilled when these people have no chance in survival via legal means like getting a job, because no one will hire them, so they turn to crime again because they reasonably assume that absolutely no one gives a shit about them, so they're going to do whatever it takes to survive, even if it means breaking the law.

Also, the prison system may have also traumatized them and make them even further apathetic and angry to society. It's a never-ending train-wreck, basically.

Norwegians treat criminals so good, the only punishment comes from the criminals own guilt("Deez Ppl So Gud. Y I H8 Dem? IDK?!"). They get treated so well, they pretty much feel guilty about being bad.
