RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

hello everyone:)

I have to say, this forum is awesome.

It's nice to meet you all, I am "chained to desk" and I am a fellow prison haterSmile

We prisoners get 12 years sentence for the grand crime of individuality. We learn about how we live in a "democracy" while we are really slaves to our all-knowing masters(teachers). We receive hard, meaningless labor even when we are "free". (homework) We are interrogated brutally(exams),punished for failing to meet universal high conformity expectations,(grades)often purposely deprived of our relationships and resources("Be quiet during test!Don't look anything up or use notes! You're bad for trying to find some solace in the form of friends from ruthless requirements!). These interrogations sometimes happen with zero warning(pop quizzes)and brutal humiliation for "failures".If I was a school architect trying to think of some way to mentally torture and control young people even when they were finally free, I might just invent homework.Of course I would make sure to remove those tricky unconditional love relationships (in families where parents love their children for who they are) with propoganda about how school is "good" and "necessary to suceed at" so students at home are only accepted for who they are when they meet MY unquestionable standards.

RE: hello everyone:)

You guys aren't the weird ones, school's that weird place where we celebrate slavery, if that's normality, then normal sucks. It's weird to not be weird. Everyone is "weird"(different)in some way or another.

What do I do for fun?I enjoy playing PC games such as Civilization V:Brave New World(a strategy game where you control a civilization from 4000 BC to whenever you win the game via: Conquest,Culture, Diplomacy, or Science Victory. I like destroying all the other civilizations.) My other favorite game is Guild Wars 2, although I hate how the developers ignore the RealmvRealm massive PvP, which is my sole reason for playing the game because I love owning noob enemy player swarms with my guild friends via coordinated fun in Team speak 3 which is an application gamers use for voice communication.

Aside from games, I like to read books like Punished By Rewards and The Homework Myth: Why Our Kids Are Getting Too Much Of a Bad Thing.

I also like science books like Physics Of The Impossible(it's about how a lot of things from science fiction are technically possible.)

My favorite television series right now is Avatar: The Legend Of Korra. If you're not familiar with it, I recomend you watch the three seasons of Avatar:The Last Airbender first. But whatever you do DON'T watch "The Last Airbender", because it is an absolute shit live action movie based on the awesome cartoon series. In general I don't like a lot of television(aka mind numbing sitcoms, boring cop shows, etc)
If you guys haven't seen Japanese anime you MUST see it. For starters I would recommend Samurai 7, Evangelion, and Dragon Ball. If you want to watch Naruto, be warned, it has a LOT of filler episodes and sometimes it doesn't stay accurate to the manga. But the manga is pretty awesome, so I'd recommend reading it instead.

Guild Wars 2, eh? That looks like a game I wanna play. Too bad it's P2P (although, to be fair most of the games I want to play are P2W in some aspect, but I can look past that usually).

What kind of music do you like? Do you even like music? Do you hate music? What genres of music do you hate?

RE: hello everyone:)

I don't like repetitive songs that just repeat the same boring-ass beat without any kind of tempo change.(aka a lot of popular music) I like instrumental and orchestrated music. Mostly I like video game music, the developers seem to put a lot more effort into making great songs than popular music labels.

Examples include : Asura's Wrath soundtrack, Mega Man 2 OST, Kid Icarus Uprising ost, XCOM:Enemy Unknown OST, Galactic Civilizations 2 OST, etc
(If you're wondering what ost means, it's "original soundtrack")

hello everyone:)

I think the OST of the entire Elder Scroll series is amazing.

The Command and Conquer series also has a pretty good OST, especially that of Red Alert.

I liked the OST of Deus Ex(first one).

Aren't a lot of songs in Skyrim just remixed songs from Morrowind, not saying that every song is like that but some are right?

Some are; fewer than I thought in the main game, actually. Skyrim has a lot of new tracks that are simply amazing, like "One They Fear" and "Watch the Skies".

Although, with the Dragonborn DLC, when you go to Solstheim you hear a lot of music remixed from Morrowind. I like its take on "The Road Most Traveled".

hello everyone:)

The Blade movie has some good techno.

The Pacific Rim credit song was good, but RZA's rap part wasn't that good compared to other songs of his(like the one in Blade). The song would've been better had he not made a sound.
