RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Found A Baseball. Now what?

On Friday, I found a dirty baseball on a lot near the school while I was waiting for the bus. It was completely covered in grime, but I figured it would be easy enough to clean up. I gave it a throw, where it landed on the street (!) and couldn't be retrieved until my own bus had arrived.

At that point, I thought to offer it to a police officer walking in the distance, but she was too far away and I wasn't about to run given the large amount of ice covering the school grounds. After the police officer left, I decided to just get on the bus and ask the bus driver what to do with the ball. He said to keep it. Since nobody seemed to be looking for the baseball, and it looked so mud covered that I thought it must have been left outside for some time, I went ahead and put it in my backpack.

Now it's a new week of hell (fortunately, the last one before Winter break) and I'm thinking of turning it into the front desk, which is what I had planned on doing if it weren't for my stupid ass chucking it out on the street. At the same time, I know they'll probably keep the ball regardless of whether anyone comes to pick it up-which I'm guessing won't happen. However, if that was special to someone, they'd be elated to get it back.

I usually wouldn't ask for moral guidance, as I prefer to make my own choices regarding such matters, but I'm surprisingly conflicted over what I should do with this simple piece of sports equipment. What do you guys think?

For those who were wondering, the ball does not appear to have a signature, although I can see a bit of faded blue markers. No such marks aside from that little bit of color.

Just keep it. No one is going to murder you over it (hopefully), and there's virtually no way of knowing whom it belonged to.

Keep it, is my suggestion.

Then again my moral compass is complicated.

Seems awfully difficult considering it's cold as hell up here in the States.

RE: Found A Baseball. Now what?

There is da snow ice outsida ma house.

Its finally cold continously here. I was getting tired of the cold, warm, cold, warm cycle. The snow is problematic however...

So burn it might not be a good idea, even if its a cool idea.

Ah, right. I forget it's not summer everywhere else...

Deflate it. Then dispose of it how you wish.

Heck no. I've never had a genuine baseball in my life, even one that's smothered in ancient rotting leaves, cow shit, and worm poop.

Keep it but if you still don't feel like you deserve it or something, do some Murdoch Mysteries investigation or something to whom it might belong XD Kidding (I s'pose) just keep it XD

Found A Baseball. Now what?

I remember finding a baseball in a public park (during the summer) a long time ago. It's lost now, but I still remember it. And it's now very cold here in Maine as well.

Honestly? I think the decision of what to do with the baseball is up to you. I wouldn't just destroy it or throw it away if I were you, though. Guess I don't really like the idea of inefficient waste.

I'd just throw it somewhere. Throw it far, throw high. Fling that sucker like you'd never fling your own property.
