RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

A Thought From a Ten Dollar Bill

So, one day, I got a ten dollar bill. Maybe for allowance, maybe as change, I don't know. But I turned it around, and it had a phone number on it, as well as a name. Rena. At first this amused me. Huh, Rena was so desperate to get her phone number to someone that she put it on a ten dollar bill. But then I thought about it for a bit.

Why did this Rena put her number on money? Why ten dollars, instead of a one dollar bill? I put the number in a website, and it's from another state. How did it get here?

There's a story here. There are answers to these questions. But I will never know them. I've never met Rena. I never will. And yet, I have an artifact from her life.

The lesson I learned is that we're all connected. Our stories are all woven together. Even to the point where someone you don't know could come across a thread. I now know that there is a girl named Rena, and she gave someone her phone number along with ten dollars. And I have that ten dollars. A souvenir of an experience that I never knew happened. And that's interesting to me.

If that happened to me, I'd call her and be like "Hey Rena, nice ten dollar bill."

I got the point, but didn't really know of what to add on to your post, so I added onto a slight joke made by Dead.

Okay, I take the graphic back.

I seriously wonder what would happen if I called the number. I wouldn't do it, because that world be creepy. But still....

RE: A Thought From a Ten Dollar Bill

It may be creepy, but you will either make a new friend or make someone extremely confused.

The chances of Rena still having that number may not be that high either since the bill has gotten around quite a bit, and even if she still has the number and picks up, she might have put that out there when she was single and is now happily married to some other guy and they have 4 kids together. On the other hand of the marriage, she might still be single and be waiting for the guy that originally got the money to call her and he simply can't because his friend saw it just sitting on the nightstand in the living room and used it to buy himself some condoms since he was out.

There are so many possibilities of what could have happened since the number was written, and I would just really like to know which one it is.

The less you try to control things, the less you need to.

I would think that it didn't go well. Because if it did, wouldn't they keep the bill for sentimental reasons?

RE: A Thought From a Ten Dollar Bill

If they were adults then I'd say no, simply because the only time I ever see someone keep something from the first time they met is in a tv show. And even then they go on to get married and only bring that up when arguing about something or the one that recieved the money is trying to be extremely romantic for one of a few reasons.

A Thought From a Ten Dollar Bill

I feel like this is someone related. Please keep in mind I've changed.

Two years ago, my friend gave me someone's number and told me that the guy who the number belonged to was a douchebag. We'd do this thing a lot, trade phone numbers of people we didn't like and make fun of them. So I texted the number saying a bunch of stupid mean shit. The guy kept texting me asking me to stop, to the point where he threatened to kill himself if I wouldn't stop. I didn't want to take my chances so I stopped. The whole conversation kind of shifted from there. He asked me to tell him who I was and I told him. He knew who I was because we used to go to school together.

Anyway, he told me his mom lost her job. I asked him where she worked and he said she owned a restaurant. He told me the name but I didn't recognize it. He described the logo and I remembered when I was a little kid (before I moved to the town it was in) seeing my dad walk in there all the time. I asked him if he recognized my dad's name. He said that he did.

So basically, I was making fun of my dad's former boss's son. Small world.

A Thought From a Ten Dollar Bill

Heh, I actually found a coin in my coin collection which was actually a dollar coin from Singapore, made in 1988. I wondered how it got in my collection, and what adventures it saw as well.

Yeah, sounds cheesy, but it does make you wonder.

RE: A Thought From a Ten Dollar Bill

I have canadian bills, a korean coin, some euro coins, turkish coins and tokens for some carnival or something.(I have USD as well. both new and old and paper and coin.)

Its interesting to think of that really. Was my fifty dollar bill used by a drug lord to sniff his cocaine?

A Thought From a Ten Dollar Bill

I got my hands on a dollar bill that had that link stamped on it. It was pretty interesting, especially since the cash I was holding traveled from Alaska to Nevada to New Mexico to Florida then up to NY and into my hands in NJ.
