RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

"Every 15 Minutes"

Has your school ever made one of those "Every 15 Minutes" videos? My school definitely has. Basically, they get all these emergency vehicles (they don't joke around, ambulances, fire trucks, police cars, etc) and make every junior and senior go watch the performance, and then the next day they get every junior and senior to go watch it again (this time made as a movie) in the gym as an assembly.

Does anyone else see a massive gaping problem with this? Why are they getting emergency units to act in a fake emergency when they should be going out responding to real emergencies? What if there's a big fire or something? "Oh no, first, we have to complete this video telling kids not to drink and drive!".

RE: "Every 15 Minutes"

They're probably not pulling all their units to the school. Like really >.> Probably not even half.

And if they did, I'm sure if there really was an emergency it takes priority over a school assembly, and they'd leave.

Isn't this common sense?

My school does that. In fact, my school had an alarm that would go off every 15 minutes on those days.

They did this at my sister's school and picked a bunch of random students and made them sleep at the school and pretend that they were dead for a week. They had to write letters to their families and all of this weird stuff that was really traumatizing to them and their families.

RE: "Every 15 Minutes"

Wut?

The only thing I recall of emergency vehicles was being part of some city event I got accepted into where we shadowed a city official and were shown the local government stuff. Fire dept was cut short due to a fire. Cops showed us guns and firing range and let us see and touch the weapons. It was my favorite. They also demonstrated a flashbang and a SWAT dude fired some weapons whilr we watched. Then we had a free fancy dinner.

RE: "Every 15 Minutes"

My school did this and I will go ahead and use the words you chose to pick out of this piece of crap.

There is only 1 of each of the services there, and they didn't put more than 2 people in each of the vehicles, even the fire RESCUE.

Now if you really want something to complain about, none of the emergency guys treated this like it was a real accident, the kid that was "getting arrested" was put in the front seat of the cop car and not the back, and since this I have learned through tv that sometimes they put people in the front but I don't know the specifics behind that so I still think he should have been in the back.

In the part where they jumped from the "drunk" kids in the car to the wreck, they showed them going slow, especially since they had to slow down in the spot where they were entering my school, and the wreck happened like they were going fast...fast enough to kill a person at least.

The drunk driver was shown to have a flask in his truck, something that really only people that have been drinking for years use, which basically implies that he can handle his alcohol pretty good. So there is no way he would have gotten in that wreck in brood daylight. He would have seen the other car and either waited or went first.

Also, they just used 2 cars they found at a junkyard so that they wouldn't hurt anyone's cars for real...THEY WENT FROM DRIVING A TRUCK TO DRIVING A CAR

So basically, they didn't even try when they were making this crap and I hate them for it. If you really wanted me to take it seriously and never touch alcohol in my life, although I've never drank it anyways and don't plan on it or drinking and driving, then you would have tried to be more realistic.

P.S. We were going to have a helicopter come in, but it started to rain a little bit so they backed off for safety reasons.

The less you try to control things, the less you need to.
