RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

I have had enough of fucking school. I am depressed and anxious CONSTANTLY because of missing work, French lessons being ridiculously hard and non stop bitching from teachers. I just wish that I could not care.

Simply don't give a fuck anymore. Who cares if your teachers are bitching, they can't do much else.

RE: Someone help

Do you have parents that give you a hard time over school? Perhaps over grades, in particular? Because, depending on circumstance, it might be easier to simply not give a fuck like Canadian Patriot said.

Also, don't worry about what the pointless bitching from teachers. It's never meaningful if they're bitching.

I often forget about the existence of the thanks button on these forums...

I once suffered from the anxiety of missing work, teacher bitching and hard classes.(during 7th grade)

My solution, while destructive, did rid of the anxiety that helped me do better next year. My solution was a "Fuck You, Don't Care". Totally disregarded my work, ignored teacher bitching and barely tried in hard classes.

RE: Someone help

I'm doing fine in my subjects, but not good enough according to the school. You see my school set your target grades for your gcses for when you're 16 at the time you join the school at 12. Also French is just killing me, I'd love to just stand up and say 'I don't care, fuck you'. I've also missed a lot of school due to a mild kidney and chest infection, and in the past me and my mam have been threatened with court over my overall attendance, which would result in her losing her job.

Logic of government. Student not go to school? let's ruin the whole family's life then swoop in with social services(or whatever) and take the kids and imprison the parents! GENIUS. -_-

Are you in middle school or high school?

I'll assume you're in high school, but if you're in middle school, continue not to give a shit. Colleges don't look at middle school grades.

If you're in high school, that might be tough, but if you're final GPA is 3.00 or above, you should be able to get those college funds. As long as you're around that area (3.00+), you'll be fine.

I'm not exactly sure how things work in the United Kingdom. What I said pretty much is what applies in the US. Perhaps you'll have to check the minimum requirements (if that makes sense).

RE: Someone help

I think I just need to pass every one of my subjects. I haven't really looked into college or anything but I think it's free here. I'll pass no problem but they expect me to get all A's and I'm really not capable.

Simple solution: don't give a fuck. If you're going to pass anyway, don't listen to them. Even if you get in trouble, who cares?

RE: Someone help

You have a point, there's just one subject I know I can't pass and I can't drop, maybe I should just deliberately fail and devote my time to things I can do well in

Well a passing grade is often a C. It's just that some people seem to mentally inflate it to A or Fail.

Once again, I'm not sure about the UK, but I'm certain that your final grades will always be mixed into a final score. As long as it's at or above a certain minimum, that final subject should be moot.

Figure out what the requirements are for what you want to do after school, then calculate exactly how many fucks you need to give about school... and don't give it any more than that. Razz
