RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

These are the kind of people who support the school system

I got my school-issued Chromebooks today, and while I was doing my homework, I decided to put on some My Little Pony music via YouTube (I was already using the calculator on it.) Upon turning it on, my older brother instantly started mocking me for it. he kept pressing the mute button, and during dinner, he kept trying to press the close button. Then, when I was doing my homework again, him and my mom started singing songs like "heads, shoulders, knees, and toes," as if they were calling me a baby (my mom, while she doesn't surpress my rights, she bullys me.)
Keep in mind, my mom and brother both are both supporters of the school system, and my brother still asks me how to spell words like "mystery."
Are these people really the kind of support that denotes a good education?

"Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence" - Donald Rumsfeld

For anyone who remembers me going on an archive binge: Thank you all. I know I ended it being a drama queen, I don't really agree with the ideology anymore, and I'm really not the same person I was (I went through a neopagan phase!) but still this site was the first online community I was in. I graduated from school and turned 18. Time flies. KFC Nyan Cat, June 20, 2019.

Asking "why?" also really pisses them off, both because of you questioning their intelligence and because they know their intelligence is questionable.

Actually that could be considered suppression of your rights.

I don't like the term bullying, because it trivializes harassment, assault, stalking, and slander youth might do to other youth simply because the parties involved are youth.

They assume school is the only place to meet people, and be perverts who touch other people's ass.(I may need to agree with the second part. It was annoying when my friends thought smacking each other's ass or grabbing each other's ass was funny)

Wouldn't work. Beat them up? They'll go out of their way to grope you as you try to beat them(talk about re-defining melee). Not punch them? They'll still try to grope you.

They seemed to think it was funny. I didn't get it. But I had no issues using textbooks to wack them on the ass. I used a thick history textbook on a friend who was notorious for it, and I hit him in the ass so hard with the textbook he suffered a massive leg cramp for 15 minutes.

That way I'd just grab a textbook and threaten to beat them with it if you touched my ass Biggrin

Funnily enough these kind of people are generally the "SEX SEX SEX IVE BANGED LIK EVRY HAWTCHIK IN DIS SKOOL!!!11!1" type. Or so I've noticed.

Though that's never the case(the sex with every chick part).

And they vehemently denied being called gay. Supposedly I was gay for thinking what they were doing was gay. I would just grab a textbook and give them an evil stare...(maybe ambush them with it somewhere and beat them around with it a little before making a run for it).

I just always thought they were confused about their sexual orientation Smile

Not happening at my school. My school can't even afford decent pencil sharpeners. We have to use crappy manual ones which date back to god knows when instead.

My advice? Don't listen to that music in view of your family (I recommend headphones and seclusion). It's okay to be a fan of something, but don't put a kick-me sign on your back.

No. And this raises an important question... what does denote a good education?

And, what actually happens during a good education?

That's reasonable advice, but at the same time, why do people have to be insensitive bullies?

Getting rid of them... or persuading them to change?

Sometimes people are mean because they don't have core needs met (and/or haven't in the past)... that gets into a whole discussion of psychology and theories of human nature, but it's something to consider. (Especially when it comes to arguments for changing education.)
