RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.
-SoulRiser

This girl received a phone call fro her friend while at party saying, "I'm too drunk to drive, can you take me home?" She picked her up, and took her home. Then she was suspended, for being at the party violates their "Zero Tolerance" policy on drugs & alcohol.

Alright I feel like punching the administrators in the face. She did NOTHING wrong. She only tried helping someone. Since when does not getting drunk and just helping a friend who is drunk, and therefor does violate the policy, equals policy violation. I don't see that as a big issue. Even the police said she did nothing wrong. She was getting a friend, so she wouldn't try to drive home and get killed. -_-
This infuriate the hell out of anyone else?

My college has enacted some policy, which I forget its name, that gives someone who assists a drunk student(even if they violated alcohol policy) immunity from being punished(even if the one assisting was also violating the policy).
Supposedly students wouldn't report passed out drunk students, and even hide them in places(or dump them somewhere outside). They were afraid of getting punished. This was obviously a problem especially when you have drunk kids passed out in the hallways or shoved inside closets.
Does the school realize that the friend actually did something every cop and bar tells people to do? To have friends take them if they're too drunk?
I guess the school would have preferred the drunk one to drive and get into an accident that led to death of people. It's surely the more logical and better outcome here!
LAW SUIT! LAW SUIT! LAW SUIT!
No judge or lawyer will be stupid enough to realize how stupid the stupid school administrators are.

What a bunch of assholes. What was the friend supposed to do, not come to her aid and possibly let her friend drive herself, and putting her life and many others at risk? Schools should not be able to interfere with our personal lives, yet they like to play NSA anyway. If I were the student, I'd write an angry (yet constructive) letter about it, maybe start an internet campaign.
And yet they stress not to drink and drive. Not only was her friend's life saved but possibly many others as well. Fuck zero tolerance.

RE: School suspends girl for helping her drunk friend get home/
And this incident is another example of how school administrators love to overstep the boundaries of people, while paying no mind to the damage they cause to the individual involved. Do these administrators not possess the common sense to understand boundaries? The girl did nothing wrong.

Obviously a sign that said administrator is too stupid to have the power to lead. If a position with such little power reveals their subpar intelligence, it's unlikely they'll ever get far in life.

And people wonder why teens won't get help when something bad happens if sex or alcohol are involved. The fear of getting in trouble. People reap what they sow I guess.

They already know what they're doing wrong. They just don't want to fix it. Don't ascribe to stupidity what can be adequately explain malice. That would certainly explain the assistant principal at my old middle school.
