RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

#2 My parents, there selfish and mean, im getting great grades like they want me to, but there selfish and yell at me, i made hot dogs earlier, *2* and they tasted HORRIBLE, so i threw them out, they were PISSED, it was a 4 dollar package of 12 hot dogs and there pissed, and they start screaming

#3 School, kills my motivation, makes me bored, makes me feel bad about how the teachers treat me, makes me feel great about how my life is going,

if you guys could please give me some insite to what i could do about these situations, that would be great

I can't help you too much with your parents or grandparents. I would so your best to get along with them and not let them get to you. You have all kind of other people watching out for- friends and us here at the forums are always around to help outSmile

Could you fill us in alittle more on what your goals are and what you hope to do one day? Knowing your goals is the first step in deciding what to do or change about school. Also I just started this site you could take a look at. It might help. Http://whatisschoolgoodfor.com

RE: Depressed.

tell your gramp to shut his yappers before his dentures fall out. Then let him know you will enjoy his dementia as he grows older.

Tell your parents if they really want to save, they may help themselves to the crap hotdogs in the trash(how do you screw up making hot dogs? or were they just bad themselves?)

School kills us all. Might want to find a class hobby. For my boring english class in 8th grade, I focused on coloring all my staples black with a sharpie marker because it just looked cooler on the papers I stapled(had a mini stapler). Certainly got me through a month of that class alone(and a massive amount of black shining staplers in stockpiles)

I'm 25, but remember what I did during middle and high school. Video games, write, and draw. i had my own world I could escape to. Multiple worlds. It really helped expand my imagination and creativity regardless of the stifling of school.

$4 for 12 and it tastes bad? Parents may want to find a better tasting brand?

RE: Depressed.

Your family members are all dickheads, if you don't you mind me saying. Your grandpa needs to STFU...and a new diaper.

Maybe you should try having a talk with them or write them a letter explaining how you feel? If they aren't that horrible they might actually listen.

"No matter what I do, it'll probably forever remain a pipe dream that will never come true,
but the fire burning in my heart cannot be doused by anyone.
Even if the black rain falling from the sky drenches me completely and doesn't stop,
I will never allow the fire in my heart to be extinguished. That, is my 'pride'."

There isn't much you can do about your family, but you can change your situation at school.

Depressed.

What are your family members like? Why are they acting like that? Is it stress, is it the way they were raised? Are they unhappy in their work lives, or lives in general?

Sometimes you can do something about your family by getting a better sense of what they're about and where they've come from. Are there some positive sides to your parents?

There was a recent study about yelling being harmful... check it out and consider discussing it with your parents:

Study Says Yelling Is As Hurtful as Hitting

You can overcome these effects by better understanding them. Find ways to process and make sense of why they're yelling. Financial stress? Try sketching out the scenes that are playing out or make layouts with some kind of program or app like Prezi. I've found it can help a lot to map out the context of some of these interactions.

Also, do you have any allies in your life, anyone who can talk to your family for or with you?

You're not alone with this, that's for sure. Maybe you can interview your teachers and see if they're open to doing anything to improve learning at your school

Most students bored in school

Do you have some interests you enjoy pursuing? Any plans or ideas for the future?
