RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.
-SoulRiser

My first week in 8th grade
I survived the first week in 8th grade. When we came back, we had to make our parents sign stuff like class expectations and whatnot. It's just like the other grades except for the applied arts/music technology(Which is cool because we get to use new technology) and earth science(Boring!!!). I've also made some new friends that were new students to the school. It was ok.

Well, you've got that first week down. Remember though, it's not going to be so easy down the stretch. Trust me, middle school sucked (and I'm sure you know that).

I heard there was a dumb regents exam and other stuff. If you failed it, you would have to repeat 8th grade.

My first week in 8th grade
I finally started an education year without having to bother getting my parents to sign something. I just got homework

RE: My first week in 8th grade
My first week in 8th grade of really fearful.Because after 7th grade my best friends changed the school.During the period of one week I really felt very loneliness.
But after that I could make friendship with other students and enjoyed the school life really well.

Fucking all I remember in 8th grade was girls getting fingered in the hallway, this one kid pantsing a teacher, and ultima online. Quite fun actually.

Your school sounds quite...sexual. Bizarre.

It was nuts, however most people seem to confirm this happens. I mean, what do people expect. Hormonally charged kids with no viable way to express it.

RE: My first week in 8th grade
Being more open socially of sex would probably provide a valve. How many kids ever feel comfortable bringing it up with parents, and how many parents dont skirt around the topic(or demonize it)

My first week in 8th grade
8th grade for me included some kid setting the boys' bathroom on fire. In general, middle school is a bad idea.

RE: My first week in 8th grade
I started 8th this year too, and it wasn't horrible, for school. Except for Latin 2, seriously screw Latin. My favorite class so far has to be English, only because we do "readers responses" frequently and when I type those I get to be sarcastic little prick and its wonderful. I'm disappointed in History this year, but what can I expect you can't follow Mr.Stewart and not look terrible. So far I don't have any crazy stories (I know, I've failed you all.) and I don't think I'll get any, this years looking pretty tame, well aside from this year's effies all looking like 2nd graders and having book bags larger than them, nothing.

RE: My first week in 8th grade
Trust me when I say that you will be happy you changed in 8th grade and not while you are in high school.
Also you will start to LOVE Washington state in a couple of years, some of you know what I mean

I don’t need the circus or the day of national observance

I remember taking Latin classes at a private school I used to go to. Damn, I sucked at it. XD

We have ASL, Spanish, German and French in our school. I take ASL while my friend gets to take Italian (cause she changed schools).
