Action time!

I'm hoping when it's all done we will have a list of useful ideas and actions. Every time I think of a problem I will write it down, then come up with an action that solves it. You can add your own if you'd like of you can just read along. Either way is cool! I hope it helps!

This is not a thread to make excuses!! But if you can think of a hard to solve problem that troubles you with school then ill do my best to answer it. Thanks!!

Problem: I have my least favorite class right before the end of the day everyday. The teacher sucks and every year it is unofficially the most boring class In the school

Solution: get all the work done as quickly as possible if not before and do something else during class

Action: I find out the lesson plan from my friend who has the class 2nd period and I do all the work on the first .5 of class without ever havin to listen to the teacher or put up with her crap. When I get done I make to-do lists and plan what I want to do for the rest of the day. I haven't been bored In the "most boring class" at my school. And I actually accomplish stuff!

I pretty much always get my work done beforehand. It does work well indeed.

problem: I feel like my day doesn't really start till after 3pm everyday. on days i have sports i feel like it doesn't start till 5. its the worst feeling ever!! every night i don't want to go to bed because i know when i wake up i have to go to school.

Solution: I go to bed at 10 and i get up early before school. every morning have about 3 hours to do what ever i want - usually with my best friend- and only after doing something fun do i go to school. when i get there it feels like ive been through a whole day! The coolest thing about getting up and doing something before school is the feeling as that i've lived two days in one! its so cool! when i get up early i get to look forward to something fun when i wake up and something fun when i get out of school.

also, i am of the opinion that anyone can be a morning person if they have something fun to do that morning and if they go to bed at a reasonable time.

Interesting piece of advice. I also suggest that during "dead periods" during class (when the teacher is talking but the teacher doesn't care what you're doing), you start drawing, reading, or writing. It helps kill all that boring time.

Why not give a Jeff Bliss-style on-camera monologue once in a while, just to mix things up?

Not while the teacher is talking, but if there are totally dead periods. Write out a scene that's related to the class subject matter and perform it.

Wouldn't it be great if you could get credits for doing that?

I can't think of one specific class-related problem, other than perhaps being loaded down with work all the times.

So...

Problem: Too much work.

Solution: Get it taken care of.

Action: Do it.

Alternative: Throw it the fuck away (if you and your parents don't care and you have some method of securing a well-paying job).

However, my greatest dissatisfaction with school is the lack of human rights, which I can do practically nothing about.

Another alternative: negotiate a different set of work (some people may be able to pull this off if they come up with a good proposal.)

Good luck with that; I doubt they'd let students change their mandatory assignments courtesy of education policies and what not.

how much wiggle room do teachers have in "what" and in "the way" they teach? i go to a private school so i think the teachers here get more room for creativity.

What do you mean? I just blend in. No one notices me and I do, literally, what ever the heck i want. What human rights are they taking from you??

The human right of individualism, since if you can blend in, you've lost your individuality?

Every kid in my small school knows me and my best friend as the guys who redesigned high school. haha we only go to school till 12 everyday and we are free for the rest of the day. When i say i blend in i mean that when i go to school no one messes with me, the teachers are all pleasant because i don't bother them and i make them think i do what they say (even though i almost never do) i spend the whole day at school doing whatever the heck i want and because of that i am making a stand for my own individualism that the teacher, parents, other kids cannot stop. You shouldnt care if everyone else can see your individualism. The few people you really care about who won't try to stop you should know who you are as a person. This is true everywhere you go. Camp, work, it doesn't matter. Institutions are not designed -in most cases- to elevate the individual above the majority. Get used to it, don't let it bother you, and most certainly dont let it stop you from being you.
