RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Touch screens
Touch screens... the only good thing I see them being used for is internet browsing and music. However, I am even considering this not to be worth it.
If the screen becomes ruined, then what? $300 was basically wasted to begin with, replacing it is going to cost more. The texting is too long. The objective of texting isto message a person quickly, and that just doesn't happen with a touchscreen.
The website is scrolling properly because it automatically moves back and the text is at the edge of the screen, the spaces are not working properly and the virtual keyboard is not good, it is inaccurate.
Windows 8 was made (I read) for touchscreens. Why would they need to make one? because they made the useless, unneeded touch screens. For a lot of people, not all, touch screens were made for the mainstream and simply amused people that need to stay connected to Facebook and Twitter, a lot of people are not educated on all of the technical capabilites and that only have the phone for "social networking". Typing on this website with a Galaxy S3 is useless. It isn't showing what I type, except showing the edge of the screen, and when I slide the screen automatically which almost makes it impossible to edit, with the virtual keyboard fucking every other word.
Why has society become so influenced with useless things? The least the phone creators would add a keyboard to the smartphones.
Phones- texting quickly-smartphones-impossible.
Thoughts?

Touch screens
I agree about typing on touchscreen - I find it extremely annoying and it is the sole reason I still use my Nokia E72 for all my texting needs (and writing short emails when away from my laptop).
I've found the touchscreen typing becomes a lot more tolerable with a kind of 'swype' app installed, takes some getting used to though. There's also a new thing in the works called Minuum, which is a tiny keyboard that takes up very little space... but relies on prediction as well. I generally hate prediction... but it's a necessary evil for touchscreens it seems. I always turn it off when I have actual keys.
I do quite like touchscreens for browsing and zooming and page-flipping and all that stuff though.
Do you have a touchscreen phone? If it's Android, look into Go Keyboard or an older version of Touchpal Keyboard (the newer one actually removed a good feature).
Tablets look interesting as well, I've seen quite a few people walking around with them in London. But I wouldn't replace a laptop with a tablet... I need a full-featured OS and a keyboard to get anything done.

RE: Touch screens
I have a Motorola Photon, which is the best of both worlds. I specifically chose this phone because it has a touch screen and a keyboard. I agree completely that it's near impossible to accurately type on a touch screen.

RE: Touch screens
When it comes to typing on a touchscreen I've become very fast.
For a long time I was anti touchscreen. but after using one I got used to is..
As for a good screen protector is suggest these
http://www.xtremeguard.com/
A screen protector is a must really. And everything they say about them on that website is like 100% true. I have honestly tried pretty hard to scratch the screen with this on and it doesn't scratch. My cat has even scratched my phone with no success. And when I threw my phone at the ground it looked like there was a chip in the screen, nope. Took the screen protector off, nothing there..
As for keyboards. I have android. And I spent like $3 on SwiftKey. Which I swear by. It's really got the best predictions and has the whole Swype option too. But I personally don't like Swype.
You mentioned windows 8. I really hope you don't have a windows phone..
Windows 8 is SO over rated. The whole tile style is just agh. I've said it before, it makes me want to projectile vomit and claw my eyes out. It's SO ugly. Whether it's on a computer or a phone, windows 8 was their WORST idea.
