To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Premise for a Novel
Here's what I have so far for a novel I'm starting to write.
It takes place in America, about 200 years in the future. In this reality, the government decided to get rid of transparency, and gradual gained control of the populous. It has gotten to the point where a chip was put inside everyone's brain. It's advertised that it connects the brain to the internet (which it does) so you can pull up whatever information you want by thinking about it.
But that's not the main purpose of this chip. It basically distracts you with information and "edits reality". For example, there are advanced cameras in every room, but the chip makes sure that you don't notice them. If you criticize the government in your thoughts, it will tell you what's on television and makes you forget.
But, there's this teenager named Lewis. He a normal, somewhat angst filled kid, except for one thing; He loves logic. He's obsessed with tying to make sense of the world. Of course, the chip tries to stop him, but Lewis continues on. After sixteen years of accelerated wear, the chip shorts out. The rose tinted glasses fell off. And he strives to make sense of it once again.
So there's my premise. Tell me what you think! It is believable? Interesting?

Premise for a Novel
Sounds like a combination of stories I've read. Obviously different parts of those stories in one is what this would be. Course I don't remember them off the top of my head
A bit rough, plot-wise, but then again if you were to read the scripts of most popular movies with good plots, you'd find the first draft to be pretty corny. It would do well to insert some contemporary issues, since almost every author seems to do that.
Interesting nonetheless. Course you may also want to try to at least very minimally explain how the government changed to the one in your future setting.

Yes, it's inspired by a multitude of dystopian novels. I like to to think of it as an Orwellian socity passing itself off as the society in Fahrenheit 451.
Also, if you were to equate novel writing with building a house, the first draft is cutting down the wood for lumber. Yes, there will be an explanation to how the goverment got this way. (Hint: the NSA scandal triggers a series of events.)

I spent some time thinking how the Orwellian government worked. It's pretty fascinating...
You plan on doing it "The Giver" style, with the government stuff there but sort of sideline to the actual story?(Sort of like eye candy, background info, sprinkles on a chocolate donut etc.). Unless the kid is somehow directly involved in some way with government(like taking it down, or making it transparent by shooting high-powered soft x-rays...wait, that's transparent aluminum.)
You have an ending as well? It's easier to write a story when you've got beginning and end, then just fill it in the middle(I do that...though sometimes I never get around to the middle )

Premise for a Novel
No end yet. I'm going to make a plot outline after I fill out a questionnaire as all of the major characters. I have a couple ideas, but they are all very bleak, even for a dystopian novel. I want it to have some hope in the end.
Lewis is a Second Class citizen (First Class=Government, Second Class=Rich, Third Class=Middle Class, Fourth Class=Poor.), so that means he has millions of dollars entitled to him. Also, his father is the city's treasurer, so he can pull some strings. In other words, he is in a better position than most to take down the government. Or at least be able to make sense of the world again, which is his driving motivation.
One more note; At this point, the US has committed countless atrocities. In international politics, they're like North Korea, if they were a HUGE threat. If word spread of what the USA has done, they could be easily overthrown. Therefore, they want to keep as many people in the dark as possible. With the Chip, they're basically attained that goal, which is why the endings I come up with are so bleak.

LOL. Not a bad idea, but it wouldn't mesh well.

That's very flattering, but I'm far from that point. I still need to flesh out the characters and the plot. Still don't have an ending. :(
