RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Thoughts on Colorado's marijuana laws?

http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/highl...bZLkfmzc69

I like how they legalized marijuana, but some of these are just.....
What makes them think non-adults are going to listen to the anti-drug "education" programs? What makes them think they do now?
I drink alcohol, I smoke cigarettes, and if I could get connections and money I would smoke marijuana too.
It's healthy. I don't understand why the federal government would come in, they need to mind their own business. It is called state rights.
Marijuana should be legalized everywhere. It is good for movies, sex, food, etc. The federal government is too big already.
Why are only adults able to get legal marijuana? That's not fair.
Thoughts?

Well, I think you fail to consider that "non-adults" have a changing anatomy till they reach "adulthood"(biologically speaking). Thus, it's quite possible something harmless to stable adults may not be so to a body that is "developing".

And how is marijuana healthy? As far as I know, anything that you inhale except air for breathing is unhealthy.

The actual THC in marijuana is not harmful, there is more than one way for taking marijuana.

THC is in marijuana, so speaking about one would be speaking about the other. THC is what makes someone "high", the marijuana is just the plant. Smoking either is less harmful than the other "drugs".

Smoking anything is harmful. Inhaling smoke into your lungs, no matter what the substance, isn't really good for you.

Brainiac, since you took the piss and wont allow mobile users to view your posts I have no choice but to ignore you.

It is only legal for adults as it is a mind altering substance that you could potentially hurt yourself, or someone else while high.

Let me tell you a story.
I knew this kid named Brent. Brent and some friends wanted to get stoned. No biggie. However they had the forethought to think "Hey, were' going to be stoned as shit and have the munchies, lets make some fries in the stovetop deep fryer!" Well, they started the fries and went to get stoned in the basement. Well as stoned people often do they forgot. Since im on my shitty fucking phone and not on a PC with keyboard I shall omit the details, but he ended up setting his house on fire and burned like a third of it to the ground. Not saying it was because he was a youth, but more because he was a dumbass. However this is where we get into liability.

Whilst some work diligently there are those who ask why. I am one of them

I'm not updated on the marijuana debate but saying it is "better than cigarettes" is not a good argument. Being shot with an arrow is better than being shot with most bullets; needless to say, nobody wants to be shot either way.

No, it's relevant when it comes to legality. If alcohol causes widespread violence, and is a factor in deadly vehicle crashes all over the country, can causes you to die during withdrawal if you are addicted etc... Why isn't marijuana legal when we have a hard time establishing that it causes any significant harm?

Also smoking cigarettes is fucking terrible

http://www.cdc.gov/cancer/lung/basic_inf...actors.htm

it even kills people who don't actually smoke

Quote:Every year in the United States, about 3,000 people who never smoked die from lung cancer due to secondhand smoke.8 9 10

And yet it's completely legal.

Now, please tell me again why alcohol and cigarettes can be purchased at the gas station, but I can't buy weed?

RIP GORE GOROTH

RE: Thoughts on Colorado's marijuana laws?

While alcohol affects a persons mind more than cigarettes, it cant really be second-handed(unless you pass the bottle), weed can be smoked and second-handed and affect the mind. If your going to take stuff that screws with the mind more than nicotine/caffeine and it can be second-handed in the form of smoke, Id rather you not stand near me or within 100 feet...

Quote:No, it's relevant when it comes to legality.
If we based the legalization of marijuana on its danger level proportional to cigarettes, we may as well pass everything less dangerous than tobacco smoking if the only objection to it is possible harm. For that matter, letting people own tigers and elephants would also be less dangerous than cigarettes.
Quote:but I can't buy weed?
If people want to do whatever to themselves, let them. The point is that saying it's "less dangerous than cigarettes" sounds like a poor excuse.
