RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Economics Class

Fuck this class!

I'm in AP Economics, and while I know the subject material could benefit me in business, I have a horrible teacher. Now, he's a nice, but awkward guy. But his kindness doesn't make up for his incompetence or lack of knowledge of the subject material.

My economics exam is tomorrow. He is the only teacher that would not give us our previous tests back to study. He said it was against school policy, even though every other teacher has done it. We even talked to our retarded principal, and he said there was no policy against giving tests back to students. But no, we're supposed to study our lecture notes. Our lecture notes came straight out of the book. They're basically phrases without the fucking definition.

I'm basically fucked. I've been half-assing that class, doing my homework while he lectures out of the book and is unable to answer any questions without referring to the text. And if the question is a little different from the text, he doesn't know. He doesn't generate his own tests, and he doesn't help us with our mistakes. Nope, he just collects our work after just letting us see our grades.

It's common sense, I know. I make high Bs (89 or 90, that's a B in my school) without really studying, so I'm hoping I'll be okay tomorrow. But why should I waste an hour in that class every day? I could read the same shit and learn faster than hearing him stutter everything out of notes he understands just as much as we do.

Re: Economics Class

Sounds like the "computer" class I took. It was basically just learning about the new Microsoft word all year. The teacher couldn't figure anything out, so we had to help him. Thunder

Re: Economics Class

Oh God I hated AP Economics. It was the kind of class where you look at the test of the guy next to you, trying to cheat, then realize that he's doing the same thing to yours. Your eyes meet and you both share a long look that means "dude, we are so totally fucked."

I think Buenaventura Durruti is a pretty cool guy. eh kills fascists and doesnt afraid of ruins.

Re: Economics Class

Good news, everyone! I got a 94 on my exam today, and I didn't study. At all. Sure, I didn't know my previous mistakes, but most of it was common sense or just shit reiterated from the book. But I agree with you, Rebelnerd. We all try to help each other, and most of the time, we either get it or we're fucked.
