RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

RE: What do you think about underaged pornography?

Hmm ... I haven't looked at the links because I'm scared and British. (long story but basically, not even fictional child porn is allowed, you can be held liable if you accidentally see it)

However, my view is that I really really don't see what's wrong with, for example, Harry Potter! porn... he's fictional, you're not hurting anyone. Only you're not allowed to use Daniel Radcliffe porn because he is/was a real child... yeah, so not cool. Cartoon porn? Go ahead if you can get off on that sort of thing.

So yeah, fiction: good. Real: bad.

The links are not porn, they are just articles and arguments.

What do you think about underaged pornography?

Haha. If it is a cartoon, I think it would benefit people that like that type of stuff from acting it out in real life. If the woman is around 16, and the sex was consent, then I don't see a reason why people couldn't watch it. If a woman around that age wants to pose nude, then she should be able to. New York City made it legal to view it, just not own any of the material. Of course the majority of society will not agree with some of the arguments that I have posted (I did not get involved in the arguments), because they are going to agree with other people and they will not look at the big situation. Of course I don't agree to underaged pornography if they are unable to make their own decisions, but if they are, and are in their teenagers, then I don't see why they shouldn't be able to.

There are lots of factors that are involved in this. 14-17 is alright for me. Give or take years depending on the situation.

What do you think about underaged pornography?

I think there are many factors involved. There can sometimes be a distinction between Pornography and Erotica. However, it's difficult to pass it off as erotica when it involves underage persons.

I don't think fictional things should be "illegal" per se, as they're only a fantasy rather than an actual act. However, I'm not really supportive of pornography for anyone under 18, even if they reach the age of consent. Pornography isn't just sex, it's a form of entertainment, a job/occupation that involves the creation of media marketed to consumers.

So I have nothing against a person who is age of consent have sexual intercourse with someone older, but I'm against the making of a video involving them

But when it comes to Erotica, then I'm not really against it. Posing nude for the purpose of art shouldn't be seen as criminal, nor should viewing(though iffy on possession). Course that's if you differentiate between what porn is vs erotica.

I'm technically against both in society though. More so against porn, a little less against erotica(since it could be considered art, in some forms).

What do you think about underaged pornography?

People here believing in strict age restrictions?

Ugh, this site has gone to the dogs. Where shall I find refuge from my enemies now?

Nowhere. They permeate everything everywhere. Surely I should have realized that long ago.

I don't know if I want to leave or not. Part of me says that I should not stay with those who oppose some of my deepest held beliefs... and part of me says that the alternative is society. Whichever one is more open to me burying myself in cement, I suppose.

...

In light of this, I doubt you all deserve such a wish, but... may your lives be as you wish them and may your deaths be liberating.

Hello, traveler.

This is an ancient account I have not used in a long time. My views have changed much in the intervening months and years.

Nonetheless, I refuse to clean it up. Pretending that I've held my current views since the beginning of time is what we in the industry call a lie. Asking people to do so contributes to moralistic self-loathing. "See, those people have nothing damning! I do! I'm truly vile!"

Because you can never be a good person with a single blemish on the moral record, I thought that simply entertaining some thoughts made me irredeemable. Though I don't care for his writing style, William Faulkner presents a good counterexample. He went from being a typical Southern racist to supporting the civil rights movement. These days we'd yell at him for that, probably.

People are allowed to change their views.

Nevertheless, this period of my life has informed some of how I am today. In good ways and bad ways. To purge it would be to do a disservice to history. Perhaps it will not make anyone sympathetic, but it may help someone understand.

If, after reading all this, you still decide to use the post above as evidence that I am evil today, ask yourself if you have never disagreed with the moral code you now follow. In all likelihood you did, at some point. If some questions are verboten, and the answer is "how dare you ask that," don't expect your ideological opponents to ever change their minds.

What do you think about underaged pornography?

I believe that you are ready to have sex when you want to have it. A child has no sex drive, making a consentual sexual relationship between an adult and a child impossible.

What do you think about underaged pornography?

^No.

I was once able to do everything faster than anyone else. This included psychological development - and yes, that does include sexually. Do you know why I've ended up so hateful of systems? Because I've been held back at every turn, and despite my constant demonstrating (or pleading to be given an opportunity to demonstrate) that I'm beyond what is expected of my age group, they just mutter that I'm too independent and I need to become a good little sheep - slow and stupid.

I'm sorry you don't believe I exist. You're not the first.

What do you think about underaged pornography?

This is pretty controversial, but I honestly don't think people should be charged with simply looking at it. The reason is because I don't think looking at CP is going to cause you to go out and stalk and pray on and rape kids, anymore than it does with the kind of porn I already look at.

If I was in charged, I would make distribution and creation of CP illegal, but just viewing it legal. In terms of cost/benefit to society, I don't see how it benefits anyone by throwing someone in a fucking cage for years and ruining their life just because they looked at images. They didn't make the porn, and I don't think fapping to CP is going to make them go out and harass actual children.

As for making CP, no, I think that's totally unacceptable. I'm all for youth rights, but you can't be serious if you think a kid can reasonably consent to sex and understand what they're getting themselves into. And it's more complicated than that... just because of how children develop in our society, there's many things they don't understand about sex, and are incapable of understanding. Not only that, but filming it then distributing it, possibly for cash. That is fucked up.

It's tough to answer, I mean, there's some fully grown adults who probably shouldn't be having sex. There's some fully grown adults who are indirectly exploited by the porn industry (not all, but some), and yet it's fully legal to make and view porn featuring them.

As you move down the age brackets, it's more likely that someone is being harmed by the creation of the porn.

Child porn and consensual sex at a younger age are two very different things. One engages in porn for money and for an audiences entertainment, like I mentioned. I don't see how this would involve youth rights or even present an obstacle for non-adults(under 18).

I'm not saying non-adults shouldn't have sex(since if they understand it, they can probably do it. It's a natural thing), I'm saying they shouldn't be involved in porn.

I too was much more mature than those of my age group, and encountered the ever-so-frequent "too independent" or "need to listen to your elders". But child pornography has nothing to do with maturity, it has to do with business and business always brings a high risk of exploitation for profits, fueled by greed.

^ Ideally.

I can't tell whether I should say all porn should be criminalized or legalized, but I really want it to be one of those two (for different reasons each, obviously). Not sure why they're bringing the numerical variable of age into this.

Well it could be because age is pretty strongly related to vulnerability and the likelihood of coercion. But probably it's because of narrow-minded and dogmatic beliefs about the capabilities of minors.

I'm kind of iffy on porn in general, tbh.

You misunderstood me. I believe that you are no longer a child when you develop a sexuality. Kids are going into puberty younger and younger these days. We need to emancipate them and their partners by ending these archaic age of consent laws that imply that the government knows better than the individual does.

Ehh... I just want things to be based on 'informed consent', however old you are. In other words ... if you're 8 and capable of 'informed consent' to sex? Go ahead, I won't stop you. You're 80 but you can't consent? Yeh, no sex for you. Also, the words 'statuory rape' have no business being together like that. (I make 'statuory' and 'rape' sound like an interracial couple in an obvious time and place in the south, don't I?)

I'm on the fence on porn in general so I disagree with CP being legalized, but when it comes to an age of consent the fact that in my state two willing 15 year olds would both be placed in the sexual predator database if they have sex shows changes definitely need to be made.
