RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Hello everyone :)

Hi there,
just wanted to say hello. Wave I am currently in eleventh grade and supposed to prepare myself for the last two years in school and then finally my "Abitur" (basically A-levels here in Germany). Yuck
Well, since I am writing this thread in this particular forum you won't be surprised when I tell you how much I loathe school.
Stuffy rooms with about 24 other students, disrespectful, inflexible, humour resistant men and women who call themselves an authority and seem to have agreed to punish any kind of individuality and real intelligence, time wasting lessons that prevent me from actually learning something valuable, clueless teachers (sorry, but if you have to torture me like this, the least you could do would be to know your shit) and freedom taking activities just don't count into my list of favorites. Brickwall
But since I live in this so highly developed, democratic and great country homeschooling is a crime and every federal state has it's own policies when it comes to the school system and since I happen to live in one in which it (seems) to be impossible to get out without attending job training right away because everyone beneath the age of 18 has to be "educated" in a way the state is okay with there is not much I can do. Ranting

What probably sucks the most is that I actually love to learn, study, explore and dig into new stuff that intrests me, but of course 99% of those things aren't part of the curriculum and school consumes too much time to go all the way. But probably you already stopped reading because I bored the crap out of you and you heard all of this before, so I'll stop now...

... Biggrin

I love being outside riding my bicycle, going on long walks and hikes. I take photos a lot and write poems and short stories. I am also really fond of books and movies (I love everything fantasy related, though I also dip in other genres from time to time) and if there's a medieval market/festival near by you'll find me there. The internet is as much of an addiction as for most teens and if I am not wasting my time on tumblr I play MMORPGs (right now it's TERA), read mangas and listen to film soundtracks/indie folk/alternative rock/jazz/surprisingly good mainstream music. Dancing around in my room like a maniac is also pretty fun. Banana Biggrin

What about you? Smile

Hello everyone :)

What mangas do you like? I like a lot of mangas like Hetalia, Lucky Star, Sailor Moon and many more. I usually watch anime though.

RE: Hello everyone :)

Didnt they have something called sailor moon on TV. I remember something with that name on cartoon network a while back during my childhood. Something about some chicks dressed like school girls with powers?

I may have liked that show, seeing that I can (barely) remember the intro and the name. But I probably would never have recalled it if it was never mentioned Razz
