RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Funny that opinions were not asked for.

Let me clarify. Why are most people naturally straight? Is it in our nature? Why is being sexually different looked down at?

Same way people are naturally gay or bi. They were born that way.

And don't say that most people are straight. Because that's wrong.

And this is why you think most people are straight. Because it's looked down upon.
For example, in the 50s much less people knew someone that was gay. Now much more people know someone who is gay. It's not that more people are gay, it's because more people are open about it.

It's looked down upon because it's different! Same way being black was looked down upon!

This is the definition of history repeating itself!!

It isn't natural.

Allow me to explain - no sexual preference is natural. It is the means the mind makes connections that determines whether one prefers homosexuality over heterosexuality. Or bisexuality. Or nonsexuality.

What is true, though, is that some people have stronger urges to have sex than others. Who with, surprisingly, is not a natural reflex - if it were, everyone would be straight (or bi, possibly), and that is evidently not the case.

A sexuality is only perversion if you construe it to be that way. To each their own sexuality, I say - I prefer heterosexuality, myself.

You do realize that in a historical sense, our categorization of sexuality is somewhat different from previous societies. I've learned that Romans only categorized sexuality in 2 ways, the penetrator and the one receiving the penetration. It was considered superior to do the penetrating, than getting penetrated.

Thus Romans were known to have sex with men, women and animals. They didn't see it as heterosexual, bisexual or homosexual. To them you were either something akin to the "sub" or "dom".

So it's all a societal thing. Not to mention sexuality is hard to define with strict borders. It all rests on a person's curiosity and openness to sexual experimentation. You can be heterosexual yet have sex with other than females. Sex doesn't have to equate to love. You can love a women, but still enjoy sex with a man/woman/animal.

I guess you can be heterosexual by heart, but bisexual by penis.

What? If most people weren't heterosexual, the human population would experience a rapid decline. How can it not be natural to want to sexually reproduce? It's true that humans have sex in many different ways, but those are all by cultural conditioning. The majority of us do generally want to sexually reproduce, and are attracted to the opposite sex.

Not making any kind of comment on morality, just stating that if people did not want to sexually reproduce, our species would simply die off.

Well, our "basic function" involves breeding for survival. So yes. I agree that we're all heterosexual at the most basic level because sex was a fundamental mean of insuring survival of the human race, while the pleasure we recieved was simply a "reward" to entice us to further breed.

This. Once the population is at a point where not everyone, or at least not an overwhelmingly majority, need to reproduce, the action of sex is no longer a task for reproduction itself but rather for pleasure and the expression of love.

I guess, ya know, the invention of the condom sorta helped, too.

bisexuality is a thing. We can breed happily.

Sure, but you're still attracted to the opposite sex. You may also be attracted to the same sex. You might be into some weird fetishes. Most people want to engage sexually with the opposite sex in some way though.
