RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Maybe you could ask her for some more time to decide. If you're ready, then I would suggest seeing her, get it out of the way, see if she's changed. If you're not then don't force yourself to see her just because she wants to. Maybe you could ask if you could just visit for a little while-seeing her for hours might make you feel overwhelmed. I don't know what I would do- that sounds like a really tough decision. All I can really say is good luck.

This is entirely up to you, really.

Good to see another absolutely clueless Anon supporter, by the way.

See her and ask for money. If she doesn't give you any or enough to make it worth it don't go back. If she gives you money keep it up as long as it lasts.

If you want to be a different fish, you've got to jump out of the school.

Maybe she feels bad for what she did and wants to make up for it? I suppose you could just give her a chance to explain herself, and see how that goes.

What they said, but all meshed together - give her only enough time to explain herself, then make a judgment call.

It's your problem.
I kid...

I think, in the simplest sense, he has been given the best advice possibly available. Meet her, listen to her side of the story then make the judgement.

And Good Luck for the support side.

im glad sr commented on this... it stunned me to read what doa said. i felt very protective of CD. and like sr i felt confused.

im wondering what motivated doa to say that. how was doa feeling? what need of doa's was doa trying to fill? was it some kind of bad joke?

it really hurts me to see some of the stuff said on here.

and while i am writing i will say that today someone pm'd me about how their gf had tried to OD on pills. i am pretty sure they didnt post it on the forum, which i can understand, cuz they probably would not have felt safe to.

but anyhow i guess pple can keep pming me if they want to talk about something serious and dont feel safe posting it. but i feel sad that the forum isnt more emotionally safe and the pple here dont all support each other emotionally better. i feel sad not only cuz it is needed here but if pple cant do it here they wont be able to provide emotional support when they are in a relationship or when they have kids. its something that has to be learned but first u have to unlearn what u have learned in a dysfunctional way. like to label pple, try to control them, tell them what to do, etc.

anyhow cd, what happened with ur mom? u can pm me if u want

You should also call her by her first name. Not mother, mom, mama, etc. Her first name only. She wasn't a mother to you, don't treat her like one. Don't be afraid to question her, either. Treat her like a person, not like family.

I do that. Even though I still haven't seen my father since I was 5, I call him Jerry. I was lucky though and found a father figure and have been calling him daddy since I was 7. I wish the best of luck to you and DoA was out of line. Im sorry.

I'm back~
