RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Hello

You can probably guess my thoughts about school.
It's not necessarily due to terrible performance. I get straight A's all the time and I made a SAT score of 1880 when I was 12. Although not amazing, I find it acceptable.
No, it's the forced servitude for multiple years of my life that I have to obsess every living daylight with. Of course, I get little support, since regardless of effort I am still a stupid ass (not saying I'm smart...) whose only purpose is to follow orders, never question any orders from authority, attain 4.0 GPA's, and raise the school's standardized test average. To some extent this is not the fault of the staff, as they barely have any clue of what they are doing, but by the flying spaghetti monster I hope the education system vastly improves some years after I get out of it.
I do plan on attaining some fancy schmany degree from college and getting some fancy schmancy job, but until then I need a place to vent, because it sucks.

Now? Not much.

During the summer, video games and computer. Unlike many, I also enjoy nonfiction books, although I've read all of the interesting ones at my house.

Hello

You should read Das Kapital. Or Tao Te Ching. Or something by Nietzsche.(I've long passed the fiction stage. For me it was [DC comics from the 70s found in the basement of a house that was about to be demolished by my father's company>Tom Clancy,Stephen King, Clive Cussler, W.E.B Griffin and Matthew Reilly>Nonfiction)

I was going to check out Mein Kampf from the local library, but some old lady was standing there just staring at the book. It creeped me out and I had a feeling that taking the book would lead to some sort of discussion, and I didn't want that. So I just walked on by and grabbed a book that listed the different forms of fascism and their main ideas.

Hello

^ Spoiler alert: The first page of Mein Kampf practically says that Hitler's going to make Germany take over Austria, he's going to kill the Jews, and he's going to make the Slavs his slaves. If people had actually read the book he kept handing out, maybe they wouldn't have let him attempt it.

Hello

Oh damn you. Way to ruin it...

"I am going to add an E to Slav. I am uber-evil Mwahaha "

I think people just sat there with the book and stared at the pages to look like a good happy Nazi. I'm pretty sure they'd have preferred to read War and Peace(that massive book that literally has no plot till you're a few hundred pages in. And that's if you're able to remember ALL those names and people. I swear, I was lost on page 80. "Who the hell is this? Oh it's the lady whose father is a count who has a mistress whose other lover is the son of another count who is fighting the french but whose mother is looking for a suitable wife who turns out to be this lady whose mother is actually not that rich but act rich so the others think their of the same social statures because the lady intends to marry an officer whose. Or something along those confusing as hell lines.)

Thank you for the recommendation, but it's been a while since I last visited a library.

I'd recommend Capitalism and Freedom, The Road to Serfdom, or The Fatal Conceit.

Actually a link to Capitalism and Freedom is in my signature.

Hello

I think I have one of those books.

My friend is a Libertarian(That would be my fault), and his favorite author is now Milton Friedman. He managed to get his hands on a few copy's and gave me the spares.
