RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Suggestion: this site could be more than a place for venting

I thought that this site is created for raising the awareness of the stupidity of our school systems, and then take action. However, after browsing around this site, it seems that this site is merely a place for us to vent.

I think that a new section can be added to this site so that we could make changes to our education system in the future.

Procedure:
1. Ask school haters' to register an account, with their email address and their country, then store it into a database
2. Ask them to spread this site.
3. All registered users can vote for their ideal local educational system.
4. After an amount of users from a country registered, says 100,000 users. send an email to them with a link for them to click on it, to estimate the number of active users.
5. If the amount of active users is greater than, for example, 50,000 , then we can plan to launch a local protest or something like that to further raising the awareness of the issue.

According to http://www.school-survival.net/kit/ ," the #1 priority is reaching out to kids who are unhappy in school". I would say that just reaching out them is not enough. We should do something afterwards. Since schools are bad for us, we should prevent our new generations from "learning" in school.

It seems that it's a tough task. Well, unity makes power, right?

There are other sites for that (I think you might be looking for EFO or something like that). We're merely survivalists.

I have visited EFO. It seems that EFO is dead. At least it have been inactive for months: http://www.edfreedom.org/category/news/ That's why I raise this suggestion.

Do not read this. Reading this message will waste your time. Why you are still reading this? I told you NOT to read this. Stop it! Okay, you may continue to read if you want. However, it's meaningless to read this. I advise you to stop reading this. Oh well, it seems that you are still reading. Why do you read this? I have told you already, this message is meaningless. Your time could be better spent than reading this message. Stop it... NOW! This message is about to end. What? You still want to read? Then continue at the beginning of the message.

We are reaching out for now because we don't have enough people to really organize anything big. Some people have organized some smaller things before, which is all well and good. Not everyone wants to risk doing stuff in real life though. I will do whatever I can to support anyone who starts something useful though.

Your suggestion will only work once we have a MUCH bigger amount of people than we do... thus, we are still reaching out.

Also, you might wanna poke around a bit more, there are plenty of people doing stuff, some of them are getting media attention. Google Peter Gray, John Taylor Gatto, and Nikhil Goyal just to start.

BTW, do you have any statistics on how much active users does this site have?

EDIT: never mind. I have found this: http://extremetracking.com/open;sum?tag=axa

Seeing that minors lack influence and power, they will naturally also be helpless to change such a situation.

I guess sane people can only check the forum for about 2 min average, and the main site for 1.5 min average.

I'm thinking the forum one has more to do with us though? or how could a normally sane human last long here?

Active user's average visit duration is more like 5-10min. The average is brought down by random people visiting via search engines.
