RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

New School Rule

During the announcements at my school, my school's vice principal said that getting into any sort of fight with anybody, self-defense or not, will lead to a $200 fine for assault and a 3-day suspension. If you get in a second or third fight, you could be arrested and taken off campus, fined for a larger amount of money, suspended longer, and/or sent to alternative school. He also said that no matter what the other person has done to you, even if they were bullying or harassing you, there will always be consequences if you choose to fight, and the staff wants you to report whoever is harassing you so they can handle the problem for you.

So basically, if somebody is fighting you, let them beat you up, and then tell an adult, and let them resolve it, even though they probably won't do anything.

It's fucking pathetic. Where I live, it is actually legal to fight a person if they bully, harass, or offend you. Just as long as you don't keep fighting them while they are already on the floor.

If it's self defense to an extreme (rape, murder, etc.), I'm pretty sure you could get away will killing the person.

RE: New School Rule

Take it outside of school, simple as that. The rule is stupid, I admit, self defense isn't assault and you could easily counter sue because the law says self defense is ok. School can't fine you for assault, anyway. What state (or country) are you from?

Brilliant idea: Beat up your school's vice principal. Afterwards, inform him that he is suspended for three days and ask him to pay you $200.

Do it!

If you do get fined, what happens if you just refuse to pay it?

RE: New School Rule

just pick a place somewhere where your school has no jurisdiction at all and get somebody to make up a contract (this is optional, but a good idea to make sure the loser doesn't press charges) where if someone presses charges, the other person will basically "own" them until the day they die (they will have to pay you a bunch of money, well, a bunch to the state of living they are in)

Contracts are the law!

Congratulations humanity, because you refuse to let go of the old and evolve you actually make people believe in 2012. Not only that, but you're the only species on Earth that were able to make it possible, now we get to sit until we die because we couldn't get to Mars. We have failed as a society and don't deserve our gifts to survive for this long. Maybe this is why dinosaurs are extinct, we sure aren't any better than the dirt you say we're created from. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pla...DvwSOFto#! Noo

Contracts cannot circumvent the law. Actual laws, statutes, and mandates have priority - if you have a contract that requires someone to commit a felony in order to honor it, for example, both parties are breaking the law (one by writing it, the other by signing).

I'm guessing they came up with this so they don't have to try to figure out who started it... just fine 'em both. Or maybe they just need the moneys...

Which means they actually don't give a shit about their students because people who start fights don't give a damn about consequences - the people being beat up are far more likely to - and that means they now can't even defend themselves.

the reason i said "own them" is because i watched the social network (there was literally nothing else on tv and i was too sick to really care since it's kind of funny) and basically, if zuckerberg settled then the people sueing him would enter into a non-disclosure agrrement wher if they said anything bad about him or facebook then zuckerberg would pretty much own his kids

RE: New School Rule

That reminds of when they said at my school that there was a new state law that said that ANY form of bullying, whether verbal or physical, would result in the cops coming over. Bullshit. They are turning kids into pussies. In fact, I rember that last year (6th grade) someone got pantsed and the cops came over. *sigh* omfg

So if another individual decides to pull a gun or knife on you, you're not allowed to defend your life. In which case, the victim can likely end up being injured or dead. Which means they'll get a nice letter from the court, get sued and lose most of their budget funds.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure their dumb ass rule is just going to backfire on them, only in a worst way

Your principal is just scared that his school might be on the media, or whatever he is thinking.
@Slick, that is so true, it will backfire sometime.
