I go to the newest high school in my school district. Because it's new, and because our district is very unprepared, every other day I travel by bus to the district's other high school for one class in the morning. I forgot that the ACT prep test was the other day, and by mistake I took the bus to the wrong high school.
The point is, I missed the first half of the test.
I don't want to go to college, and don't intend to, so I figured I just wouldn't take the test. I was told yesterday that I'd be taking it this morning. I told the person in charge I didn't need to, and she told me it was mandatory. I think that's a lie. It's not even the real thing, it's a practice test... We're taking a test to practice for a test. What kind of shit is that?

Anyway, I'll post as the situation evolves. If you have any suggestions on what to do, let me know.

I'm not sure, but even if you don't go to college you could be able to use the prep score in a job interview... I think.

The ACT (and SAT) practically determine how the rest of your life will be.

I also suggest going to college. It doesn't even have to be a good one. If you don't, your chances of having a shitty, stressful life will increase (or rather stay the same, but will decrease if you go to college).

I could see that... for most people. I don't want a traditional job, though. A 9 to 5 really isn't my kind of thing, because school is very similar to that and it makes me feel like I'm wasting my time. I could be doing something that made me happy.

Your ACT scores only matter if you're going to college. But if you're not, or you're serious about not going, then you don't have to worry about it. It shouldn't be mandatory; take it up with school administration if you really aren't planning on college.

But outside of college, what kind of job do you want? I'd suggest a technical institute, where you can learn to fix things, work at your own hours, train for only 2 years (I think, it depends on specialization), and go to work making good money right away. That is, if fixing stuff is your forte.

I want to start my own business, run a website, be a musician... I'm a very motivated person. There's a lot I hope to accomplish. I'd be relying on multiple sources of passive income. It'll be a very fun experiment.

You could start a website about music that makes money...like an online business, teaching music online and making your site attractive, all while using Google Adsense to monetize. I myself am currently building a website, though I'm still trying to build better content and get traffic. But if you succeed, you'll be able to make money without killing yourself at a 9-5 job.

I'm taking the PSAT on Saturday. Fucking annoying. Hope I do decent on it though. Taking a test to prepare for a test is ridiculous though. Laugh

I hated the PSAT. Fucking waste of 3 hours. But if you do well (as in, get over 200), you can qualify for scholarships. If I were Hispanic, my score would've qualified, but no, I can only look Hispanic.

Anyway, today, 5 kids from my grade were honored for being National Merit Semifinalists because of their PSAT scores last year. I didn't care, but our class was dragged so we could honor their "intelligence" and "test-taking skills." One of those kids even had the gall to brag about breaking 2000 on the actual SAT as a fucking accomplishment in intelligence...there's something disturbing about the fact that these 5 "scholars" are white, well-off, sheltered, and obsessed with grades but don't know much about the outside world. Not that I'm bitter or anything; I could've easily gotten the scores if I cared enough.

My point? PSAT is a waste of time unless you want a chance at some scholarships for schools you've probably never heard of.

Agreed. I just want to see how I do for the hell of it. If I'm going to be relying on the actual SAT to get me into a semi-decent college I want to know if I have to study my ass off for it.

Well, me, I'm going to go to an art college. You don't have to get a 9 to 5 job just because you went to college. Actually, I'm trying to get good enough on my own now. If I think I might be ready, I'll send a portfolio to a bunch of places to see if any accept me. If not, off to art college I go. I could use making some good connections as well.

I'd imagine they have music colleges, don't they?

Meh, I got form S.

The test was easy, but they didn't give us enough time. Meh, finished anyway. Could of done better with more time.

Anybody know if the PSAT actually resembles the SAT?
