RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Screaming in my sleep

Does anybody else ever wake up screaming, or actually scream in their sleep and not wake up? Last night I fell asleep while in a call with my girlfriend on Skype, and she informed me that I kept screaming "Help me" and that she got really worried. There was a point in a dream I had last night where I had screamed help me a few times, so apparently I had actually said it in the real world as well. On other occasions I've been in a hotel room with my family, and I wake up screaming, but I don't ever remember anything of the dream that caused me to wake up screaming at all.

The dream that caused me to scream help me:

I was in the car with my mother, father, and sister. My dad was driving, and we arrived at the 7/11 near our house. I notice that all of the gas pumps are gone and the building itself has taken a lot of damage. A group of people blocking the road informs us that there was a tornado. Then one of those people ends up driving my dad's car (?) and we end up back at 7/11. I walk up to the damaged building and some people attack me. At this point I scream help me a few times, before entering a different dream entirely.

Who am I? Who are YOU?

Screaming in my sleep

I apparently turn into a miniature tornado in my sleep; whenever I wake up, my pillow is several feet away and each of my blankets are separated.

RE: Screaming in my sleep

I never scream in my dreams. Weird shit happens sometimes though, one of the scariest is this one I have that's been reoccurring on and off for the past 3-4 years. I'm stuck in the middle of a jungle dressed in mid century army gear (Korea, Vietnam maybe WWII, I dunno) with a bunch of other people dressed the same, squadmates who are random people I know in real life, friends, acquaintances, never had family in it though. The people vary from dream to dream. Usually we're pinned down and taking fire and when we try to shoot back we're out of ammo. Other times we're just running through the jungle like we're being chased, though I've never figured out by what, the enemy I guess?

I have dreams about Nuclear Holocaust too, though they never follow any kind of pattern or story like the jungle one.

Screaming in my sleep

I one awoke in the middle of sleepwalking. Weird experience. I also have been known to talk in my sleep. I think it's probably perfectly normal as long as it isn't causing some sort of trouble in your life and you're getting enough sleep.

RE: Screaming in my sleep

i've been told that i talk in my dream, but i don't think i've ever screamed...i did wake up once to find myself *censored because of TMI*(multiple similar dreams, but only caught myself once)

Also, the most memorable dream that i have is when i was (probably) on summer vacation and got bored so i decided to throw some blankets along the couch to make a little tunnel/fort kind of thing and i went to sleep on the carpet with my head out one side, well my dream consisted of what seemed like the whole world being completely flooded except for this one watch tower looking thing, well while i was swimming i got "attacked" by like 5 or 6 dolphins and they quickly "ate" my body and i managed to get away while just being a head without leaving a blood trail and then i climb the old discolored ladder to the top of the watch tower, then when i get to the top i find those fucking dolphins waiting for me and one of them leans towards me (they were standing on their fins like you see in movies) and says something that i've forgotten over the years and then they all somehow have bibs on and pull out forks and knives...then i wake up and my mom tells me to come sleep in her bed (so i assume i was making a lot of noise)

that's definitely the weirdest dreams i've ever remembered having, but i've had a lot that didn't make any sense and by the time i realize im dreaming i wake up (any dream that i remember is always due to me drinking soda(usually root beer)pretty much right before i fall asleep

"free speech under the constitution only guarantees the government won't stop him saying it and does not guarantee his right to say things and have no consequences at all as a result. also i completely doubt that he is motivated solely by "i'm saying it because i can" and is probably motivated by a more shitheady motive like "i think it's funny to annoy people and Rustle Le Jimmies™ and is just hiding behind the first amendment to try to deflect any consequences or make you realize that being allowed to annoy people is a superior moral right. you can still disdain someone for doing things for dumbarse wankery purposes and you have evne more right to ban and insult them for it" ~Trar's friend about Potato.

Thanks for the diploma… can I have my childhood back?

Screaming in my sleep

I know a guy who talks in his sleep sometimes, and another guy who makes weird sounds, it sounds like he's possessed. Dunno how to describe it... sort of like a combination of squealing and wailing... creepy.

Screaming in my sleep

I've never talked in my sleep, but my brother does. Sometimes he says whole sentences.
