The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

The food at my last school was horrible, not fit for a dog! Pink slime burgers, dry, rubbery carrots, greasy ass macaroni, mushy corn, cold pancakes, waffles hard as cardboard, crumbly, tasteless chicken nuggets, hotdogs floating in disgusting yellow water, with burnt flakes drifting about... ewww. The portions were tiny and left me starving.
A few times kids found metal flakes and hair in their pasta. I found mold on a tortilla! Once I ate a taco- a pretty disgusting one at that, and at recess it made me nauseous to the point where I almost threw up. Mind you, my district is not a poor one. The lunch used to be more bearable when there was a slushy machine around. The only edible thing in the whole cafeteria.
I found a dead trail of ants in the rice upon closer inspection at the lunch cart. Ants. No one believed me. So, next to that health inspection certificate proudly taped to the lunch cart was a trail of dead insects in the food. Nasty!
Now I'm in middle school, and the food here is a million times better than that stinky crap disguised as food. We have real pizza, not cold cardboard covered in sauce! No more sun chips at the snack line- cookies, pudding, funnel cake, and even ice cream during the summer. They serve mozzarella sticks and real chicken fingers. Occasionally they serve calzone. It's a lot of junk food, really. But it's quality. There's a mini fridge full of snapples, chocolate milks and water bottles. One of the lunch ladies is really nice, she treats the kids like human beings!
So, how are your lunches?
(This post was last modified: 12-12-2012 07:02 AM by GreenLamp.)
My school's lunches are terrible. They replaced the only brand of pizza that didn't make their signature meals too much worse with a cardboard thin crust version. I only eat junk food at the snack bar now.
Public Service Announcement: First world problems are still problems.
Well this year I don't eat lunch at school because I only go for 2 and half hours. But when I did it depended. Some things were good and some were bad and only every once in a while would someone find a hair in their food. But basically the food was actually pretty good despite being mostly processed crap except on the rare occasion the lunch people actually cooked. The only really bad thing was the burgers.
I hate my school lunches. The pizza is basically a cardboard triangle covered with whey. Tasteless whey, at that. That's all I care to describe. Michelle Obama decided that 2oz of protein was enough, so we can't get pepperonis on it anymore either. No salt/pepper. No knives, even though they have us running around with essentially hardened-tip spears all day with sharpeners in every room. School logic is funky, to say the least. I don't think I've had a lunch at all (school lunch is the only option besides cold) on a weekday for 3 or 4 weeks.
I do not have a pet fire-spewing walrus, contrary to popular belief.
If you say something I do not care about, I will ignore you. This is not an invitation to say it louder.

FUCK MICHELLE OBAMA! SOMEONE BETTER GET IN THAT APES MIND THAT SHE CANT BE A FUCKING DICTATOR! She is just the over glorified bitch wife of her jerk husbend who wont even bail detroit out! That ape goes "DUHHH! I will waste all your money on starveing your kids instead of using it to save detroit!" At my school, much of the food is rotten, there is ants in everything, the pizza is just a wet stale cracker with KETCHUP and cheese whiz and the pirtions are megar at best! They call a fucking chicken nugget on a frekin bun lunch! The portions are too small. If I had any money and could bring, I would. But since I qualify for free lunches, it is often the only meal I get that day, so I have to eat it.
Damn guys. I live in Seattle. It's Ghetto here. Sorta.
My school is 50,000 dollars in debt, but the food is tolerable.
There's pizza every day, ( Not delivery pizza good, but still pizza). It's not usually hot, more like lukewarm, and you've got choices between peppers, sausage, pepperoni, and cheese.
Then we have nachos, (Which lack cheese most of the time)
We have waffles (hard as a rock and tastes like nails) when nobody eats breakfast
and there's a huge snack machine in the corner.
Some of the food here is okay, and some is bad. But it's not so bad that people just don't eat. There's also a Safeway, and a Mcdonald's not too far from the school.

The food is okay here. The food standards at Scotland aren't terrible like the US. It can be crappy at times, like the occasional overcooked sausages so I look at them first before I consider buying a sausage roll. When they aren't overcooked they're quite nice though. I usually stay away from the bland cooked veg though (well when its cooked on it's own, they're usually overcooked). I got my money back once when I found a thin strip of plastic in my soup.

^ Are the schools in Scotland as bad as they are in the US? I'm curious
Also, I would've thought more schools would have better lunches. My school's lunch could pass as a subpar restaurant. In fact I just bought a cinnamon roll today, it was delishus.
I'm sorry about the condition your school is in, SomeRandomHuman ):
Maybe this will make you feel better. Even boring food can be tasty with a little sauce!
I don't think the school standards are as bad as they are in the US. We don't have constant multiple choice tests. I found the literature exam concept ridiculous though - having to memorise prose to overanalyse it. Who the hell does that irl.

Dude what kind of question is that? LOL
Scottland is full of men in skirts and bagpipes, and everybody is uptight, but likes to dance.
Of course their schools aren't as bad.

My lunch is so bad I skip it some times. And one time this corn cob fell on the counter and a lunch lady put it back in the tray!
Yuck.
F*ck healthy lunches.
thordon sorrow, I cant put sauce on the food cause I dont have any money to buy it, and since dad is dead and mom is in jail, I cant just ask for $. But I talked my shit rich aunt into letting me come for christmas, maybe she will give me some. I would think food would improve because we were taken over by investors called the leona group; and we are now charter public hybrid (free charter school) because school has no money to run. Judgeing by the thread called fuck the leona group, you can probally tell i hate them...

Some stuff was good, other times it wasnt. The food in highschool was pretty decent. At college it was epic.

above terrible but below ok... the only good things are the nachos, the ground beef if cooked great and the nachos are decent. the pizza is decent but i only get it because of the cheesy crust. but the nuggets, chicken patties, and tereyaki/orange chicken always has pink spots in it.
Everything was ok.
'cept Taco Crunchers. That was the best fast food dish on planet earth.
The cookies and fries were pretty awesome too.

The food at my school is great, since I bring it from home.
Every food they serve there is horrible, though, except for the chicken. It's pretty good though probably less healthy than eating salt out of the bottom of pretzel bags (seriously, am I the only person who's ever done that?)
Hello, traveler.
This is an ancient account I have not used in a long time. My views have changed much in the intervening months and years.
Nonetheless, I refuse to clean it up. Pretending that I've held my current views since the beginning of time is what we in the industry call a lie. Asking people to do so contributes to moralistic self-loathing. "See, those people have nothing damning! I do! I'm truly vile!"
Because you can never be a good person with a single blemish on the moral record, I thought that simply entertaining some thoughts made me irredeemable. Though I don't care for his writing style, William Faulkner presents a good counterexample. He went from being a typical Southern racist to supporting the civil rights movement. These days we'd yell at him for that, probably.
People are allowed to change their views.
Nevertheless, this period of my life has informed some of how I am today. In good ways and bad ways. To purge it would be to do a disservice to history. Perhaps it will not make anyone sympathetic, but it may help someone understand.
If, after reading all this, you still decide to use the post above as evidence that I am evil today, ask yourself if you have never disagreed with the moral code you now follow. In all likelihood you did, at some point. If some questions are verboten, and the answer is "how dare you ask that," don't expect your ideological opponents to ever change their minds.
Everything in elementary school tasted good. Middle school food was alright, but high school sucked. I caught food poisoning four times out of the entire school year and had to get my stomach pumped twice. It sucked. The cheese made me gassy an sometimes constipated, the overcooked vegetables tasted nasty and the meat was.........not meat. Didn't taste like meat. I brought my lunch to school for the rest of the year unless I forgot it. College food is great. No food poisoning, constipation or stomach pumping. The cafeteria food is great and there is also a coffee shop on campus partnered with Starbucks. I would get a sandwich or wrap with an energy drink every day unless it was cold, then I would get something hot. I brought my lunch only once. I had eaten at a pizza place called Big Lou's and brought a few slices of their 42 inch pizza. Got a few stares especialy when I had to heat it up, but it was good. It was better than the campus pizza which gave me gas.

My mom makes my lunch, usually just a bunch of snacks.

The food at my school isn't awful. They do take away almost everything I like though... I liked Lifewater, they stopped selling Lifewater. I liked Clodhoppers, they stopped selling clodhoppers. I liked Izzes, they don't sell Izzes. The only things they haven't taken away are the Sweet and Spicy Chili Doritos and ice cream.

These people need to be sued for providing such bullshitted food
I've always brought lunch from home. My mom cooked at home frequently, so we always had some left-overs to eat. My schools lunch is pretty good however(though now, being in 12th grade, I just go home for lunch then come back for my last class)
