RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Exclamation We have to resolve a very important question here, affecting us all!

After watching numerous amounts of Tedx Parkour videos, and for all of you out there who know the relation between freedom, control and following dreams within parkour. Now lets skip all the peptalk and watch the videos if you're interested and getting some sort of clue why I even I'm posting this thread. I think this is very necessary! Biggrin

THE LIST MAGNIFIKE:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3x-vqr3ZnZE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xW1eQ90G-Lo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ir3m6y7JXF0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjvsA0v7r0g
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjmE9dUB128
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzg8zYrMpC8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U14jUQWYrb8

All the above videos are related to parkour and are TEDx's, some tell storied about dreams, and various others tell about other stuff and some are just "sho-offs of parkour" and inspire. Back to the point!

Many of the "talkers" in the videos have dropped out of school and talk about following dreams, but how did they do that. Reach the goal and accomplish anything. Some had skills in animation and such, and had opportunities of such...

For all parkour fanfolks, Daniel Ilabaca's story was quite cool hearing about. He dropped out of school at the age of 14, It makes me depressed knowing that I am at school right now. I'm fucking 16! FUCK!!!

I want to drop out, but that opportunity is quite low-pitched and it's completely out of the question to do it know.
I don't feel like I belong in my school. ach ach ach!!!
Everyone around me don't really get or understand me and aren't really true/real friends. FOR FUCKS SAKE!!!

Back to the point.

The question which I ask and I guess MAYBE many others have asked and are asking, what should someone who drops out of school do, how to succeed, how to accomplish anything???????????

We need a list, of some kind. AHEM AHEM AHEM SOULRISER. If I somehow haven't found it or left it out somewhere, please tell me, but we really need a way, because everyone here is dream passionate lover :(

Hug I wish you all a sane school afternoon. I will die from unpassionate, boring work.

BTW. My mom many times say that you make it as boring as you yourself want it to be. I disagree which such a statement, at least related to school considering that the teachers don't allow you to make it interesting. PEOPLE SHARE opinions about this last statement and about this complete thread. Smile

RE: We have to resolve a very important question here, affecting us all!

There's some info here:
http://www.school-survival.net/alternati...pping-out/

In particular, these have good info:
http://www.school-survival.net/wiki/Drop..._of_School
http://www.school-survival.net/alternati...der-it.php
http://www.school-survival.net/alternati...ut-GED.php
http://www.school-survival.net/wiki/Convincing_Parents

It's difficult to make boring things interesting... so the only way I think to make school more interesting is to do more interesting things instead of the boring stuff, but then that probably means breaking some rules.

Read Weapons Of Mass Instructions by John Taylor. It talks quite a bit about successful drop outs. If I were you, I would recommend getting a GED in case you drop out.

I wish you luck, go get freedom buddy!

I checked the links SoulRiser, and I found a lot of inspiring stuff, however the GED thing can't work. GED is only available in the USA and Canada and maybe in other countries, but not in mine. Homeschooling is not optional, the same thing, only a little more fun Biggrin
I do not fit together with my co-pupils and acquaintances. They're only giving me a hard time :(
Freedom.
A word misused...

#SoulRiser sorry, but I have to rephrase. My mom says: Nothing is boring if you don't make it boring.
She thinks that nothing is boring as long as you don't make it boring. What do you have to say to that? I kinda agree but not in relation to everything.?

Thanks Smile

Ah I forgot, what country did you say you were in again? Or didn't you say? 'Cause I don't know how it works in every other country in the world. I am not Google. Razz

Different people have different interests, and thus will find different things boring. A teacher could theoretically make anything boring by being a shitty teacher, or they could make almost anything interesting to almost anyone if they're a good teacher. It'd be hard for you to make a subject interesting if the teacher seems hell-bent on making it as boring as possible, without completely ignoring the teacher somehow.

Weird, I thought this was always displayed under my name, but apparently it's not there anymore.

lol there is no language called African. Afrikaans is a language I can speak, and there are like 9 other official languages here, none of which I even remotely understand.

And the wiki doesn't have any info on your country... :(
