RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Why isn't weed legal?

Then again there aren't really any long-term studies into weed. Thanks to the government classification of it, it's not something the researchers are able to research.

So it's pretty hard to say anything concrete about it.

Why isn't weed legal?

Just me two cents in a nutshell:

Cannabis is completely not welcome due to the gigantic risk, and cigars are only marginally welcome

RE: Why isn't weed legal?

I used to smoke weed. It wasn't bad and the only thing messed up was my memory. But, I've always had that so... It wasnt until I started using other drugs with it that it really fucked me up.

I'm back~

If weed was legalized, companies would see it as something they could make a mint out of. They'll turn weed into something which is filled with harmful, cancer causing chemicals like they did with tobacco.
The government would tax the fuck out of it. It would just turn into a way of making money basically.

I'd rather risk getting caught by the police than giving these shitty companies money to ruin my body.

You're already giving shitty companies money to ruin your body...there are a cocktail of chemicals, growth hormones, and spliced DNA injected into many foods and medicines.

Yes Bingo! Makes paper, all kinds of textiles, rope, paint, plastic, cars, houses, clothing ... not to mention that hemp seed oil is a good source of Omega 3, so it's nutritious.

IMO, it needs to be decriminalized, if not legalized.

Why isn't weed legal?

Even if weed was harmful, (which it isn't) it still should be legal. If you're an American, then the government should have no say about what you put into you own body. The fat that pot is safe and makes if more crazy to be illegal.

Why isn't weed legal?

Weed isn't legal is like the school system not being reformed yet. Stubborn politicians holding on to old ideas.

Personally, I don't smoke weed, I'm not into it, but I personally think it should be, at least, decriminalized. If illegalizing drugs has been a big failure, I don't see the harm in legalizing "the least worst" drug. Then again, the idea of legalizing drugs has only been partially mainstream for only so much time (though states like Colorado and Washington are good examples of taking it to the next level).

Why isn't weed legal?

Some, if not most, of those industries need to get taken down by another business, in a way. I am for legalizing marijuana as long as it isn't too expensive and isn't overtaxed.

To start off with, it was made illegal because manufacturing industries were complaining about the decrease in business, since marijuana was being used to create clothing and other things, therefore they complained about the Hispanic immigrants bringing marijuana (which was actually hash, not marijuana) into the United States of America and was then classified as illegal from the authoritarians.
At least this is what I was told.

I support the legalization for marijuana, because now I am unable to get quality marijuana. If I could, I would.

I just don't support the chemicals being placed in the marijuana plant to make it grow quicker, and the taxing of it.

Anyway, it is time for change, and Colorado and Washington (weird, that is the Congress state, and they don't support legalization), and they are making change happen. Except the federal government is getting involved and not following the state right procedure.

What do you mean by "Congress state"?

Or are you mistaking Washington D.C for Washington State(why they decided to name a state Washington when another Washington exists is beyond me. At least a West Washington or something else would make less unneccessary confusion)

RE: Why isn't weed legal?

Legalize it so less would be laced, strictly enforced, and because it's a waste of a punishment to be in possession of it. Though, then comes the question of how much and then the whole ethical side of it, which is already there

RE: Why isn't weed legal?

(03-21-2013 07:21 AM)Pluto011 Wrote:  I believe it is illegal because of some of its uses.

Firstly, it helps increase the survivability in cancer. It helps chemo patients eat by giving them the "munchies", which combats the malnutrition chemo commonly causes in patients because it normally destroys their appetite. In certain types of cancers, it also disables damaged genes in certain types of tumors which reduces there growth rate or in some cases stops it completely. Also, the THC found in weed can be used to help treat AIDS, anorexia, sclerosis, tourettes, and insomnia. As such a miracle of nature, it would take away millions or maybe even billions of dollars from the medical industry that would normally be found in expensive medications to help treat the above conditions and many many others.

Secondly, juices found in weed can easily be turned into a cheap and renewable source of clean burning fuel. It would be much more efficient and could completely replace fossil fuels. Obviously, this would utterly destroy the oil industry. Less money going into oil industry = less profits = less money in government pockets.

Lastly, weed would be nearly impossible to tax, unlike alcohol or tobacco. It can be grown anywhere and everywhere with little to no effort. The government would have no way to keep people from growing weed in their basements and selling it, tax free, on the open market.

In short, its all about the money, and the legalization of weed would hurt a lot of industries.

+1

Not sure about its use as a fuel, though...

Why isn't weed legal?

I do have to wonder if those arguments are really why people want cannabis legalized though.

It's rather like saying, "I want a mortar because it will help me hunt herds of deer so that I can feed my family." Well, sure, maybe you will-but because you want to blow stuff up. In the same way, people don't want weed legalized so their grannies can dope themselves up and cure their cancer or whatever.

RE: Why isn't weed legal?

I'm fine with it being illegal.. No government regulations or taxes and no pharmaceutical companies fucking with it. I just go to my dealers house and pick up a bag.

It should, IMO, be decriminalized on a federal level and not regulated or taxed. That way buying and selling and using weed would pretty much remain the same, there just wouldn't be any ridiculous fines or punishments just because someone finds a joint in your pocket.

Maybe this would allow businesses to take advantage of the benefits the plant has on a larger scale, other than just getting high. It can make paper, plastics, can be used to produce energy, has medical uses, ect ect

It is illegal because it causes a lot of mental health problems. I learned that in Year 8 in PSHE. However, I no longer learn PSHE because of my poor homework record in other subjects.
