RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

This is my life rank!

So how I value life is like this:

1. Self development and self exploration
- Dreams
- Wishes
- Interests
- Hobbies
- Things I love
2- Social stuff
- Make people like me
- Be nice and good socially
- Be accepted
- Have fun
3. Some random stuff.
4. School, money, job, education, status, rank. All that shit!

What's yours?

This is my life rank!

Priorities:

1. God. (The Holy Trinity and I are chill, so I rarely have to address it. It's #1 nonetheless.)
2. Self-upkeep. Can't have myself keeling over and dying, now can I?
- This includes food, sleep, and food. (Yes, I know I said food twice.)
3. Making sure other people aren't bothering me.
4. Assuming I'm secure in 3, making sure I don't bother other people.
5. Mental development:
- Learning by:
- Playing videogames (it works!)
- Reading stuff
- Listening to music and stuff
- Watching YouTube videos
- Doing stuff (this is rare)
6. Social interaction (on my own terms)
7. Goofing off
- Might either be lounging or the more pathetic variety of videogames
8. Whatever shit is bugging my family
- They might not be like me, but no one is to lay a finger on them
9. Everything else
- This has tiers too
- Mostly everything is at the top
- Then there's 30 miles of crap
- And then there's school

(NOTE: School (or another miscellaneous task) rises to top of priority chart whenever my well-being (priority #2) is in jeopardy. This is not a paradox, inconsistency, or oversight on my part.)

Public Service Announcement: First world problems are still problems.

RE: This is my life rank!

1) Mind
-Hobbies, personal interests (i.e. Video games, reading)
-Education (modern history and how the world works is of particular interest)
-Figuring out my place
-Drug exploration/mind expansion (Not necessarily together but they fit, as I find mind altering drugs a good means to the end.)

2)Social
-Time with friends/make new friends
-Do shit with said friends
-Maintain healthy relation ship with GF

3)College/Job
-Not terribly important to me but I do them because they are a means to an end (Improving my mind and achieving higher goals)

4) Family
-They aren't the least important they are a big part of my life but I've always felt kind of ambivalent towards them. I care about them alot and I realize their importance in my life but I don't think I'll ever be a family oriented person. They're just kind of there like furniture, If I could do without them in my life I don't think I would miss them all that much. It sounds cold but I don't mean it like that. I just don't know what to think of them.

In general I take a "Roll with it" attitude to life. Doesn't mean I don't have strong opinions or care about things but if I lose I'm willing to acknowledge defeat and move on. I don't really fear death it is what it is and my time will come, if I died today I wouldn't have any regrets, I think most of all I would be disappointed about what I'm missing out on i.e. technology, culture, human progress. I smoke, do drugs, and engage in risky activities for kicks. I'm rather unethical but realize this and don't really give a shit. In the long run I really only care about myself, I'm no different from anyone else in that respect, I'm just able to see that part of me and am willing to acknowledge it.

This is my life rank!

You guys or girls I don't know :( Made a much more comprehensive list, mine petty, yours' los bigos!
In Secondary school and Primary School I hated reading, but then at the end of Secondary school when I really starting hating school, I found out how great books can be. Smile So now I'm reading em for fun actually - I would never have thought I would say/write something like that in my life - for fun - haha! Biggrin
Where's your dreams and wishes, do you include that in interest and hobbies?

RE: This is my life rank!

1. The well-being and happiness of myself and everyone I care about.
2. Learning whatever I need to be a better person & better friend.
