RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

An alternative? Is it?

I know I've been posting a lot of thread lately and It's mainly because I'm in a very shitty period at school and I think it was finally time to write a post here - get some answers and maybe to cover the need of everyone.

So in my country GED; unschooled, does not exist. However, homeschooled does, but the problem with this is that I am still being forced to learn stuff which I don't want to learn. That way I haven't accomplished almost nothing. Which sucks!

So I have been pondering for a short while and realized that I really need people's help on this forum.

When someone decides to be homeschooled, there is almost no point. Almost <----

IF unschooled and GED does not exist what do I do?

I feel like my complete childhood is spent on studying, doing homwork, tests, etc.

What about job people, if I quit school??
ANy answers?

RE: An alternative? Is it?

Are the tests/markers/syllabi for homeschooling easy, obvious and standardized? If so, find out exactly what you would need to know or do for these, and write down or type up the information you would need for easy reference, use it to study/on any possible "assignments" and then study what you want.

Unless this would be more about what your parents expect you to learn, that's a whole different story that will vary personally.

I've seen so much shit done to youth and for some reason, this has made me angrier than I've felt in years. Abuse and oppression happens all over the world. But this...this mindless, condescending disrespect toward people who have no legal voice with which to defend themselves, this reduction of parents' betrayal into a cheap crack about kids being computer-savvy...it's like watching a surgeon joke about life insurance while his patient bleeds to death on the operating table. An alternative? Is it?

Should I be writing where I live straight on the forum, isn't that like against the rules. I guess I'll avoid saying anything about where I live to avoid any mates finding this accidentally and reading this. So I can't give you anything closer then Europe. :(
I think that maybe the smartest thing for me would be to make a website and earn money from it. Smile
Site Founder, can I ask how old you are and how old you were when you made this website?

OK. That doesn't help though. Razz

Go to the wiki and look up your country and see if there's a page for it or not.

There's no real harm in telling people what country you're in though, as long as you don't narrow it down to your town and street address. Razz

Good idea. Start now, and just remember it takes a long time for the money to start rolling in (assuming you've done everything else right).

I read all of these question on this forum, and honestly the saddest thing of all is this one
Quote:Thanks for the diploma… can I have my childhood back?
- The user: Heil_Kaiba8921 --> posted this.

I am listening to music right now, and when I read it, it really made me sad. When thinking back 10 years now I can understand that I've got 10 years more to go to start working with psychology. 10 more years to go, I am afraid that I must find an alternative to this.

When I ask my friends why they go to school, all they answer is: Good grader = good job = money.

But what if it isn't the money and the grades and the job which interest me. It's my hobbies, my ideas, my dreams and my plans which I care about....

Seriousely, I am kinda sad-'ish now, not crying though, just kinda down.

I am 16 years now actually, have started a website, working on it, but hope to make it a success before turning 18. Hopefully. Hope I have. Smile

What kind of work do you do? How did you personally deal with the school. I guess your earning quite a bit from this website now, and it's great Wink

lol. You can edit your post if you want. I'd do it, but I'm not sure which part of that bottom quote should be in or out of quotes.

Why 10 years? Learn as much as you can now, then later on if you want to take a psychology course, you'll already know a lot of it and can accelerate the course (I'm pretty sure a lot of universities/colleges have that kind of option).

I basically ignored the crap as much as possible, just did what was necessary to get by, and tried not to let it invade my brain. When that wasn't working anymore, I made this site to rant about it. xD

I am working on it locally now, I don't have a hosting plan yet, because by doing so I avoid paying while finishing the site. I think I am going to make a thread maybe. Tell me your opinions, but that's when I make it done.

So you live almost completely on your websites? Biggrin

Well, having it hosted somewhere online as early as possible can also help for SEO, since it takes time for you to get search rankings and whatnot. What's the site about?

I guess it would be very tiresome with all that money, all that popularity, and all those paparazzis. However, I think it would have been fun maybe the first 3-5 days up to 1 week. I would spend 200$ dollar on only popcorn and filled a complete room with it Biggrin Biggrin Biggrin
