RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

My perspective on school subjects

When I was younger - in prime school, more precisely from in <--> 4 grade I honestly loved math. I spent time solving addition tasks like 594383495+4392854= ????++ . At the time that was a big accomplishment for me and I really enjoyed math. In retrospect I can honestly say that I maybe even liked it more then I like gaming and PC stuff now. Then school started doing stuff which I don't know what was, but something ugly. Something beyond comparison. They made math boring, by asking for only answers, not comprehension. So math become boring, and because of schools never ending stress towards a test I never got the time to really "take in" what I learned from math and I started disliking my favorite subject as a kid.

Math was not the only thing which school ruined. Chemistry, Science, Second language, and sometimes even gym.

So I just want to point out that it isn't the subjects which are boring (well sometimes, depending on what the sub-subject is), but it's the school.

I guess many people here know that, but I've seen threads which say why math is useless. Math isn't useless. Math is epiccly cool, it's only school which has made it so boring and tragic.

Today while I was at school, we were starting with a new subject and I knew the stuff so I didn't follow in class. When the teacher had stopped talking we were told to work on some tasks in the book. I had been working on it since I knew most of what she was talking about, and didn't bother listening to her.
So I kept on working. I was solving a task similar to this

http://imageshack.us/scaled/landing/687/69721850.png

Now the thing was that she appearing and asked me, what are you doing? I said just solving stuff. - That's now how you are going to do it. Now comes the shitty part which almost made me laugh her in the face. She said. "You know, if you solve it like that when exam arrives you will get 0 points", and I was like. WTF bitch, I solved it, I understand the method. She was asking me to do it an easier way which was less time consuming. Now my way was much more comprehensive.

Well, that is not the point of this thread.

Then I said, I prefer doing it this way. - well that's not how you are supposed to do it. - well, I guess I'll do it later. - you will like this method more. - maybe... Then she left me. BITCH Noo

She was demotivating me and OM W F,

So I kept on doing it my way, but only to understand the actual way I solved it how "she" thought it was suppose to, only to know it.

So, the point is. Learn the subjects, fuck the school. Fuck school. Fuck school!

RE: My perspective on school subjects

The way schools teach math is extremely unintuitive. One of the worst things was when they retaught percentages. It went something along the lines of x/100*100=X% or something. The worst part was always repeating the dull, intellectually depraved mantra "percent goes over 100, 100% of the time." What the hell.

I've seen so much shit done to youth and for some reason, this has made me angrier than I've felt in years. Abuse and oppression happens all over the world. It's a terrible reality of modern society, but we've all accepted that it happens and we're doing what we can to fight it and build a better world.
But this...this mindless, condescending disrespect toward people who have no legal voice with which to defend themselves, this reduction of parents' betrayal into a cheap crack about kids being computer-savvy...it's like watching a surgeon joke about life insurance while his patient bleeds to death on the operating table. The media's job is to protect society from oppression and they've drawn a clear line between the people worth protecting and the people that don't matter. How can they people sleep at night?

^ No, we aren't. That's what the trolls want you to think.

Anarchy is a bad thing, a very bad thing. (But I'm all for a little mindless rebellion)

Anarchy is a system of gov...actually, it's a system that lacks a government. Due to flaws in human nature, this does not work at all.

Anarchy is rebelling against something knowing society isn't going to get any better therefore killing each other like every human does now. Anarchism is simply human instincts at its overload. Like drunk Christian Europeans that are racist too.

Lesson Number 1: No matter how related the words sound, no word in the English language means the exact same thing.

RE: My perspective on school subjects

I remember I did that for the first few months in high school physics.

I never remembered any of the formulas, I just saw the information and knew what to do. The teacher didn't care, though, especially after I got As on the tests.

That's not true, some words do have the same meanings. But, despite "Anarchy!"'s use as a catchphrase among the rebellious, anarchy itself refers to the notion of getting rid of a government.
