RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Turnitin.com sucks.

I forgot the whole website but now that our school has forced to get a email to make a account, now I can't just use all the information I got from Wikipedia. If you already noticed I only use the first page on assignments that involve the internet.Believe it or not I managed to get A's on most of them just from Wikipedia.I guess they just don't want us to be lazy.I'm getting to the point where I want to plagiarize simply because they told us it's a bad thing.I can't,no I CAN believe they would think everything they think is wrong IS A FACT THAT IT'S WRONG! Rely on whatever intelligence you have to paraphrase, or better yet, think of something original. There's no way around that Nazi campaign site.

RE: Turnitin.com sucks.

turnitin.com is just a complete waste of time, my teachers in my X (almost 13 apparently) years of school have only used that site a TOTAL of 2 times, and one of them I didn't even bother because I didn't do the confusing ass research paper.

From what I heard, your teacher gets told that you're plagiarizing the words "I believe" from this one paper in the forgotten section of Google. Someone in my English class(the research paper crap) also said that at his old school(i think) they had to get the plagiarism mark down to less than like 10% which is near impossible.

RE: Turnitin.com sucks.

I had to use it as well. After copy paste cut it up an re arrange the sentences. Then go back and reword them. Work, but still easier than honest work.

Reword and paraphrase. Just change any fancy words into basic words. Teachers think so lowly of us that if anything has any words that wouldnt be found in a kindergarden dictionary it is plagarised.

My teachers used to say they could tell if we were plagiarizing if we used "too many big words." Basically they were telling us to dumb down our vocabulary to avoid any problems. They'd give us examples of sentences from web articles and say "this is not how kids write". They thought we were idiots.

That's how it is with a lot of my teachers, even though for the majority of my classes/classmates, they're right, it's still a dick move. Same. Some teachers think Wikipedia is mostly lies, though our textbooks probably aren't any better. *cough* christopher columbus *cough*. A few like it. If our info isn't from Wikipedia, it's from articles on blogs, small websites and sometimes even answers.com. What makes them think these sources are any better?

the biggest problem with our textbooks (i'm gonna use history as the best example) is that they don't include things like secret dealings our government has had with other countries to kill people from ohter countries (US weapons go to Iraq to kill Iran...because it's really so hard to secretly kill them ourselves) and just from using OMG-facts I've found things out that I was never told were wrong or out of context...it'd be nice if people told you some slightly helpful things that don't relate to school at all over the years we're stuck there

RE: Turnitin.com sucks.

I just remembered this, there was a time either last year or the year before that i didn't really feel like doing a paper because we went to the library so often and i could just screw around on my laptop (ok it was last year...too lazy to fix) and I ended up looking for someone on the internet that would write it for me, I found a website that will actually do it for you and they can get it done in pretty much any time slot, but here's the catch...they're smart enough to charge a somewhat expensive price for a paper you should be doing yourself. It was a nice site, and if it wasn't so expensive and me so cheap I probably would have gone for it.

Turnitin.com sucks.

It said the Japanese were bombed blah blah blah, so I decided to look more into the website today and it was more of a Nazi website than I thought. Even if you didn't even look up any information you'd still get 12% of the plagiarism tattler system at its least. They thing everything that involves copying should be illegal. This is why I'm pro plagriarism when it comes to school. They don't deserve my capable originality. I'm actually fine with this site called Edmodo compared to that, but that's a different topic. If they want 100% originality then they're going to see a lot of baby words and random caps usage.

RE: Turnitin.com sucks.

WW2 is pretty simple to sum up: you don't want to know what happened, but it was awful.

Turnitin.com sucks.

World War II is a pretty neat story, especially how it started.

It all begins with World War I, obviously enough. The Germans got their asses handed to them, and lost control of a whole lot of land that they legitimately owned before their surrender. So, Germany sent a few ambassadors to talk to the winning team, and these ambassadors basically rolled over on their bellies - they didn't stand up for their country, but let the alliance against them hold them completely accountable for the war (even though some Serbian gang sparked it). One political activist was enraged with this - Hitler.

So, a couple of years later, Hitler teamed up with this old war hero dude and attempted to take over Germany through this revolution attempt called the Beer Hall Putsch. It failed miserably, and he got house arrest. At the time of his attempted takeover, the German economy was suffering, but it began rising again. All Hitler could do was wait and write Mein Kampf (which nobody read, even when he did take over) - a novel all about how he would kill inferior races, make Germany head of the world, and turn the Russians into his slaves. Crazy guy.

The German economy got another downturn after resources started fueling France again, so Hitler started some more political activism. This other old war hero dude, who was president of Germany at the time, reluctantly gave Hitler a position he invented to be a formality. But, he was an old dude - he died a few years later, and Hitler became in charge.

Hitler got to work taking away the rights of the people. He hired a guy to burn down the Reichstag (a place where laws were made), and blamed that attack on the Communists. He declared martial law or whatever just after it, and informed the populace that these measures were necessary to stop socialism - as a fascist, Hitler detested socialism immensely. He kept making radical changes, picking up the German economy as he went, and got the populace under his control not by force but, amazingly enough, of their own semi-free will.

Then, he decided to get into some military action. His trusted guys or whatever you call them argued with him on this, saying that the League of Nations would sanction them further for such a thing. However, he moved his forces into the demilitarized portion of Germany (called the Rhineland), and waited for the League's answer. They decided to let him get away with it - they felt that appeasement, or letting Hitler have whatever he wanted, was the best way to stay out of another world war. After all, everybody hated war.

So, Germany took over Austria by forcing the Austrians to vote (so not really much of a choice) to merge the two countries together. They then took over the Sudetenland, which belonged to Czechoslovakia at the time but had originally been under German control. Still the League did nothing, as they were terrified of war. Hitler broke many promises he made with the League, continuing to expand his influence. Eventually, he waged war on Poland, and the League snapped. That's when war broke out.

Battle after battle was waged. Germany kept trying to take over other countries, and succeeded on many counts - the French were practically their slaves at one point. However, Germany couldn't fight the whole thing alone: They made allies with the Japanese, who were seeking to take over Asia (and also succeeded on many counts). Germany kept pissing America off, and when their allies blew up Pearl Harbor, America snapped and beat their sorry butts.

*insert stories about what happened in the actual war here*
