RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

that other post made me do it

OK, so after finally attmepting to watch the video of the idiot girl reading from this site, I searched "Why school is good for you" on youtube, the first non-featured video was definitely not helpful, it was a song with that new skinny black rapper and i tihnk jay-z...not sure, but then i scrolled down a bit and found this little tidbit. After the first reason I decided to post my responses to his reasons...you'll see why when you look down a little bit on the screen.

Reason 1: It didn't help me get organized at all. (this is probably due to lack of playing RPG games because most that I've played are random ass fights while you are trying to walk the 5 feet[not literally/really]to the next town)

Reason 2: I haven't noticed any difference

Reason 3: Yea I suppose it does, even though I watch the center and only glance at my health occasionally

Reason 4: Kind of, I just started driving not long ago and so sometimes I get put into a decision where I need to think quickly (such as if I'm close enough to the light that just turned yellow to able to get through it safely or not)

Reason 5: I suppose, haven't been dedicated to a "drawing" in 3 years though (I draw paint jobs for cars that aren't to scale, just a generic body, and the only reason I did that was because I had nothing to do in study hall)

Reason 6: Possibly, I seem to be able to remember useless crap pretty good, but I'm terrible with quotes, which would be really useful at times, and school related things most of the time. I don't pay attention to my character stats much though because even if my character does have stats then I try to get everything maxed out anyways, or atleast lots of strength.

Reason 7: Only in some situations and mainly for extroverts, which I am not one. I also don't believe that all gamers are able to get along because of there different play styles.

Reason 8: [Insert cop's voice from Smosh] BULLSHIT!

Reason 9: Eh, not really in my case because I've always found a way to take a break from homework, probably because of my ADHD though, which has gone away for the most part now.

Reason 10: I don't always pay attention to the story, good examples of games I don't watch the story for are; CoD, Elder Scrolls (have Oblivion but haven't played it much yet and have skyrim but haven't finished bc of too many RPG themes[yea yea i know], and there is also Demon's Souls/Dark Souls even though they don't really have a storyline at all. So I kind of prefer a good fantasy book to a game as "great" as Skyrim, I don't find the graphics in it to be that great honestly.

So yeah, there are my responses to that video that I found when looking for a video about school, what are yours?
