RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.
-SoulRiser

Finally, I'm home!
It has always felt like I'm crazy, and out of place. That sentence is half true. I was out of place, until I came here. It feels like an oasis in the harsh desert of adolescence. In my school, I feel like the only person who thinks like I do. Everyone else, even my friends, don't get my ideas. It seems like you guys will though. I'm a big believer in schools being evil places, full of conformism and anti rebellion. It took this article to help me realise that: http://www.paulgraham.com/nerds.html. I know the article heading is nerds, but I think it might speak to anyone. Sadly, my school has no such system for expressing our opinions outside of a student council, which I see as a trick to make us think we have power and a contribution to the school, but I don't see how it does. Feel free to elaborate on that if you wish. Well, I hope to have some happy times on here, and maybe change my school for the better. FREE THE CHILDREN!

Welcome
Where are you from, what music do you like, do you play games, and do you like cookies?
Nice article, btw. I've had that one listed on the Articles section on the main site for quite a while. You might also like the writings of Peter Gray, and John Taylor Gatto (among others).

Thx for your welcome arms. Sadly, I don't share personal info on the internet as a personal policy, but I do like cookies! Also, I've been browsing through the articles section, and I found a few of them really good reads! I hope to become a regular to this one in a million site.

Music and gaming preferences are personal info? Okeydokey then. No worries. Um. Do you like pie?

RE: Finally, I'm home!
Well, I'm not too much into music, and I am HUGE fan of video games, especially the Destroy All Humans! Series, and star wars. I starting to realise where some of my issues in school may stem from... Oh, and I like pie as a concept, hate it as a food
I just realised, I called myself crazy! That kinda proves I'm right, but no matter!

RE: Finally, I'm home!
You guys are making that up right (bein over believing IS a side effect of being smart, it's proven by science!), because I'm yet to hear about the next Picasso who came from a mental asylum. It's good to know that most people here are mental to, because it's so hard to find friendly, partially insane people who want to talk to me instead of a tree or a rock or a picture of spongebob.
If anyone needs a hand dealing with being mad without power, or "smart mad", ask me. I'm a sort of expert, what with me being it and all. It's not always noticeable, but it's there, along with my philosophical side and my "shoot me now" side. That one is kinda dead a little. Well, you know... next to nothing about me I guess. I'm so glad I can just ramble on, and people will actually respond to me. It's a weird sensation. Hmm... (goes into a long thinking session about rambling on, which turns onto a new invention for masking the smell of cat vomit)

^ The pictures of SpongeBob post-2005 are actually demonic spirits. You have no reason to talk to those.
At least trees don't get up and leave whenever I strike up a conversation.

RE: Finally, I'm home!
I'm going completely off topic now, with a science joke (yes, they do exist, and yes I came up with this)
"The Gravity Gang walked into a bar"
"I said to my mate that they were as force to be reckoned with"
Feel free to use that, but you must post that you used it on here within 24 hours of saying it, or prepare to face the wrath of 100 angry tigers and an emotionally unstable blade of grass, whos only weakness is bullets! (That one is courtesy of my friend).

Finally, I'm home!
^ Crap, I was going to use that punchline for something else.
Two atoms are walking down the street. Suddenly, one falls to the ground, and says, "I think I've lost an electron!"
The other atom is surprised. "Are you sure?" it inquires.
"I'm positive."

Lol, I really thought that science jokes didn't exit, until today. It takes a certain kind of person to appreciate these, and I'm that sort of person. This was an honest lol, not an internet lol, for now...

If you crossed 10 puppies with 9 kittens, and then blended the resulting mess, how many people would buy it? I reckon, 6.3.

RE: Finally, I'm home!
I thank you! It's good to see a creator of a forum who takes an active part in the forum. It's unusual on my internet travels, as are areas that don't include trolls and pies. It's like being in family guy being online sometimes. Don't know why... *looks at stewie shaped computer, and opens a new tab on briannet*
