RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

special education

The purpose of special education is to take rebellious kids out of the main population, dope them up, convince them that their rebellion is a mental disorder and to put them under closer control (because their is a higher student staff ratio and sped schools). The other thing this does is stop rebellious students from spreading their ideas to the main population.

It's twofold.

The potatoes (I don't mean this in a derogatory sense) that actually do belong within it are only sent to school to shut up the people who argued that they were excepted from school and that it was unfair (think NCLB).

You're preaching to the choir, in any case.

special education

I go to a "special" school and half of the people here are pretty much similar to each other and do have anti-school thoughts, and are seen as "very political". Then there's my class, also known as the boring people who have everything in common with each other because they don't do anything other than listen to pop music and watch Family Guy, same with the younger classes, except the younger ones tend to spread rumours about each other and try to beat each other up over it but instead just end up running and hiding from each other. They also have a tendency to spend "a lot of money" (although rarely more expensive than £15) on caps and CDs and then brag about how much they cost. Then there's the ones who are obsessed with Pokémon to the point it's the only thing they talk about or play on consoles.

RE: special education

Special education is bullshit. I agree, they are trying to make us think our anti school thoughts are a mental dissorder. Look out for cycologists and dont take the medicine, aka bullshit they give you, one of the ones they gave me that mom made me take made me have seizures, so watch your back. I know the last part was a bit off topic, but a really important warning.

I know someone who works in special ed in a low income area. Those kids really need to be there. When people look at us, all they see is our hatred, not out facts.

The purpose of life is a life with a purpose

I don’t need the circus or the day of national observance
I need you to think for you and stop being a servant

^ Why?
I know I was smart enough to make myself look completely normal by year 7 to try to get some friends and so people wouldn't think i had issues.

I had minor social issues and major behavior ones, then they sent me to BS Academy basically insanity, you looked at a kid wrong he beat you up. They threw you in a little padded room when you went insanely angry (I didn't get that angry until I went their). I left after a kid started beat me up in bathroom (I was in third grade). I went to another school, most of my social issues became really bad in BS academy. In my next school I got mocked because of my social weirdness.

I'm pretty normal now, but I'm in a school for depressed and drama-y kids because they think I'm to angry. Its not to bad though.

I think I got sent to SpEd for similar reasons. Looking back I don't think my issues were that bad... yeah I could be a nutcase at times but the bullshit that I was forced through for years was incredibly fucking unnecessary.
