To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

ITT: We discuss alternative history
Alternative history. A subject widely used in the fields of film, artistry, and literature. Stemming from the curiosity and creativity of countless men and women, we can consider how the world could have radically changed because of incidences small or large in scale.
The possibilities are endless! What would the world be like if the Nazis won? If the Native Americans were resistant to Old World diseases? If the Yucatan asteroid never wiped out the other non-therapsid dinosaurs?
These are just some of the questions we could ask. I apologize if I jump to assumption here, but I predict that most of the responses will be based on that of the wars of the 20th century. All forms of speculation and debate are encouraged, so be creative!
Anywho, enjoy the thread.

Serious Question: What would have happened if the Confederacy had won the Civil War? I'd imagine the Union would have stayed together (not sure about the border states though) but I think the Confederacy would have disintegrated some time after winning. It was founded on secession, and after they had actually seceeded they kinda weren't really anything other than an anti-union. The issue of state's rights (what the Confederacy were technically fighting for) would have been brought up considering Davis and Co. kinda shat over them during the war and there would have been squabbles and eventually secession from the secession.

wouldn't have minded as slavery was beginning to fade(albeit slowly).
Lincoln could give a shit less about it and actually prolonged the tension.

Except the early U.S. was also founded on succession from England.

Probably not a whole lot. He supported the Vietnam War as well as government intervention into the economy. He has a better reputation than Lyndon Johnson but they're both slimy politicians.

Ok, new speculation. For the sake of bringing something interesting to the table, I propose this: what if the American megafauna of the Pleistocene ( wild horses, smilodons, ground sloths, dire wolves etc.) never died out. Some Native American groups domesticate horses and mammoths, using them as mounts and
working animals.
How do you think European settlement of the continent would have been if the virgin forests were abundant with beasts such as the massive short-faced bear, and that groups like the Aztecs wouldn't have been intimidated by the Spaniards?
