RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

RE: Your favorite movies and actors?

Favorite actor is Johnny Depp. One badass motherfucker. He just absorbs whatever role he is playing. Sometimes to the point of not even recognizing who he is.
Daniel Day Lewis is good too. So is Robert De Niro
Clint Eastwood is both a good director and actor, "Do ya feel lucky?... Punk."

I don't mind Brad Pitt. Most of his movies are pretty good. I like Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman a lot too.

I like Jim Carrey. He's a funny guy and he can portray serious characters to, like he did in 23. That's some crazy shit.

Johnny dep is an amazing actor too. I don't like any of the movies he's starred in (except public enemies I loved that movie) but as a performer he's one of the best.

RE: Your favorite movies and actors?

Vincent Price is amazing too. He's my favorite B-Movie horror star. I love how stoic he his.
House of Wax was good, so was House on Haunted Hill
My favorite has to be The Last Man on Earth. Based on the same story as I am Legend and The Omega Man, Has a much better ending though.

Does anyone else love old Science Fiction films? I love them! The Day the Earth Stood Still, War of The Worlds, When Worlds Collide, The Invisible Man, Day of The Triffids, It Came From Outer Space, Metropolis, Forbidden Planet.

I'm a real scifi junkie.

Mark Strong looks a lot more like Jeremy Brett than Downey Jr. Which was kind of weird. But yeah, he's pretty good from what I've seen of him.

RE: Your favorite movies and actors?

i'm supposed to be the one asking this question...

Not decided on a single favorite actor, but Nathan Fillion and AnnaSophia Robb are high on the list.

Not decided on favorite movies either, but Kids in America, Serenity, Spy School, Because of Winn-Dixie, Bridge to Terabithia, and City of Ember are among the few that I've actually willingly watched more than a few times. (Brave has a pretty good chance of getting on this list, but I haven't watched it more than once so far so impossible to tell.)

RE: Your favorite movies and actors?

Bridge to Terabithia was such a shit movie. This is coming from someone who read the book. I didn't really even like the book to be honest.
Because of Winn-Dixie, Good adaption of the book, nothing special though.
City of Ember though... Man, that book was the fucking shit, and while there were things about the movie that pissed me off in regards to how inaccurate they were, like the giant mole and Lina's Dad getting gestapoed. They did a damn good job with the movie. Bill Murray was a great fit for the Mayor too.

If you're a fan of highscool/coming of age flicks check these out; they're some of my favorites. They aren't in any real order. You'll probably like all of em' though.

Dazed and Confused -Set in the 1970's lots of drugs. Good movie to watch while baked

Superbad- Comedy about two loser best friends during last days of highschool, I would honestly be surprised if you haven't seen this one.

Beware The Gonzo- Picked on kid starts an underground paper and chaos ensues.

Charlie Bartlett- Rich/intellectual kid (charlie) goes to public school, makes a name for himself as a "psychiatrist", rallies against principal etc..

Suburbia- Very punk movie. A group of rejects/runaways band together in an abandoned house to have a place to fit in.

The Breakfast Club- Kids from different cliques meet in detention and end up becoming friends

The Art of Getting By- Never really been a fan of romance movies but I've always had a soft spot in my heart for this one. It follows a kid who doesn't have many friends but is extremely smart and a talented artist. I guess it kinda resonated with me because I identified strongly with the main character. My uncle always gets me really good movies for christmas, I thought he fucked up with this one at first but I sure was wrong.

i never read the books because i've only found out about the movies fairly recently, maybe i'll try and track down a book of City of Ember some time though, I'd rather not ruin my memory of the other movies.

I think I started watching it, but I probably hated and didn't finish it...but I have seen it pop up on netflix quite a bit.

Oh god, I hated that movie.

Will watch.

I think I've heard of it through popping up on netflix, will watch.

Can't decide if I ever decided to watch it or not, but it has been on netflix a lot.

Lemonade Mouth was basically a new generation version of this, but I still haven't seen it lol.

Never seen it, may have seen it pop up on netflix a few times though, and I don't mind romance movies, as long as they don't go over the top...which is sometimes hard to judge though honestly.
