RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Getting the message through
Walked into English and on the board was a Nazi poster screaming 'HEIL MEIN FUHRER' i'm like wtf this is a concentration camp.
Then teacher went on to talk about brainwashing, and I knew this was the best oppurtunity to get the message through to others about school's brainwashing techniques. Teacher tells us to open books and write out what we thought brainwashing means, so I write a whole paragraph on how school brainwashes both kids and the public to think that it is vital to succeed. Teacher asks me what I think it means, I read out my writing to the class and she just sits there, desperatly thinking of a comeback.
After I read it out pretty much the whole class agreed with it
I got an hours detention (Butthurt Much) but it was worth it.
Fight the power!

My good sir, I wish to shake your hand. That's awesome! I would love to do something like that but my teachers never give me a good opportunity.

You sure showed him.

Wow, man your brave. My teacher always does stuff like this. He plays Rage Against the Machine and throughout the lyrics they talk about hating teachers.
Then he'll be like " Sit down, to your seats, stop talking, headphones out, listen to me, eyes up here, attention!"
Riiigghtt. SO questioning every authority but yours is okay.

You got detention for doing your assignment?
lol.
Anyways, good job. I always take the chance to express my views about school when I can, but I hardly ever get assignments where I can freely write about what I want.
Besides in newspaper.. I still need to write that anti-school article and get it in the newspaper for the entire school to read.

I wrote things that I really mean, too.
In the end teacher asked me if I am an attention whore...

RE: Getting the message through
Awesome job, I used to do that to my English teacher when asked to do writing assignments, (I wrote why such assignments are pointless), but it takes way more guts when you know you'll get punished. I wish someone like you was in my class.

I wish you were someone like him.
Stop relying on everyone else and just do what you gotta do(No, that isn't following orders or other crap, I mean doing whatever YOU want to do).
Go do what you think is true, don't fear anything.

RE: Getting the message through
I did, its just that I didn't have to fear punishment because my school wasn't as draconian and i did not care for what they threatened to do.
