RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

My school's idiotic rules

Quote:Leggings or other form fitting pants (if you feel that you need to explain your pants, then they fit under this category) are not to be worn, unless with a shirt or top that is longer than the end of your arm when it hangs relaxed.

Ok, what? I go to an all girls' school, and most of the male teachers are gay, so what exactly are they worried about? That we might *distract* each other?

Quote:Students are not permitted to chew gum anywhere in the school buildings (including the field house) during the school day
Why exactly? Did the rulemakers just pull this one directly out of their assholes?

Quote:As a privilege, the XI's and XII's are permitted to go down to the cafeteria in the morning, if they are free. This is not a privilege that is extended to the X's or the IX's
Great rule, really, especially as over half my grade doesn't have a lunch period for 3 days of the week. I have no idea what they think they're achieving by denying us the only breakfast some of us might have time to eat, because we're in such a hurry to get to school that we can't eat at home.

Quote:Outside food is not permitted in the building.
Why, scared that someone wants to bring almonds or some other healthy snack because you feed us processed plastic Fruit Roll Up shit? It's like you want to starve us while making the food we do eat as disgusting as possible...

Quote:Food, other than water, is not permitted above the cafeteria, unless in the special case of a student who does not have a lunch period. In this special case the student may bring her lunch upstairs in one of the provided "to go" containers.
So I can't even bring an apple upstairs to eat to stave off starvation? Nevermind that the apples are green and shriveled and taste like they've been soaked in the toilets. Nevermind that there's no actual place to eat upstairs, unless you want to eat during class. WHICH WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DO. So basically you can only make use of this rule if you have a lot of free periods but don't feel like eating lunch downstairs. It's like they're trying to make these rules as stupid as possible.

Go to work. Send your kids to school. Follow fashion. Act normal. Walk on the pavement. Watch TV. Save for your old age. Obey the law. Repeat after me: "I am free."

RE: My school's idiotic rules

I would get kicked out of that school so damn quickly it's not even funny.

I went to an all boy school and the rules weren't that ridiculous. Though students started ordering out a lot and the cafeteria owner (it was outsourced) got pissed and complained so they made a rule saying food can only be from home or the cafeteria. No one listened.

RE: My school's idiotic rules

What a shitty school. My school isn't even that strict with rules. I just have to stay away from the security cameras and the inspectors, and I am fine.
