On my Washington DC school trip! He gave us this really stern lecture on a lot of things and then talked about how he'd gotten the MegaUpload guys while they were in New Zealand, celebrating one of their birthdays. He was like "People need to know that it's not okay to do that. It's just wrong, there's no other way to put it. You're taking hard-earned money away from people when you download songs and videos." And everyone was watching him with wide eyes, totally believing him, and I was just sitting there in a pool of resentment like "yeah those poor recording companies."

Also, I love the fact that this 3-day trip was entirely an introduction of these jobs to us as future career possibilities. The teachers told us so themselves. Yeah, I really want to work in this field.

He took down MegaUpload, or helped on it or whatever the fuck. He expressed that he supported that and that "software piracy" is "wrong" when he said it's wrong to download songs and videos, unless you've found some kind of weird sarcasm that no one understands. He never switched positions.

He is a prick. First of all, Dotcom hosted a filesharing site, if someone broke the law using it it isn't his fault. Do they prosecute google for illegal content found through their site? No, it was a clear violation. Not to mention, filesharing is just the next step in technology, like cassetes and CDs were. These dumb fucks say the same shit every god damn time.

If I had been the teacher on that trip I would have asked him if he feels bad about taking hard-earned money away from the people who developed MegaUpload. I also would have stated that stealing is when you take something from someone and they don't have it anymore. Copying something doesn't 'take' anything from anybody. In fact, that scumbag is the thief because he actually did take MegaUpload away. Even though he didn't keep MegaUpload for himself that's the same as stealing someone's money and then throwing it in the garbage. What a self-righteous turd.

Ah, the age old idea that morals are concrete, and that if you wouldn't do something yourself, then everybody else shouldn't do it either. Nothing is this black and white, but rather a shade of grey. We aren't truly taking money out of their pockets because in many cases, those of us who download it wouldn't have bought if the option to download weren't available. Perhaps it's because of lack of money, or because of wanting to try the product out before buying. Despite being an avid downloader and uploader, I still buy albums. Sometimes I'll buy a shirt. Or instead I'll go to a show. My money still goes in to support the artists. Fuck this guy.

There was a news report where the police department in Australia was using pirated software for their databases.
They bought 1,000 licenses but used about 7,000 copies. But they get away with it and the software company can do nothing.
