RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

I actually cried... yes I cried. * SPOILERS FOR HUNGER GAMES**

You know I heard a lot of good shit about The Hunger Games, but when I went to see it I didn't expect it to be all that great.

To be honest I was blown away with how good I thought it was. In fact I actually cried at one part.

Damn, some good shit, I'm about to read the books.

Any movies or shit make you guys cry?

Yes, fairly often. Feels really good and really bad at the same time.

I can't name any instances off the top of my head, though.

I cried as a middle schooler when I watched all 6 Star Wars movies in a row and Darth Vader died. What a tragic figure...

The Green Mile was the only movie to make cry.

Other movies that made me cry include Marley & Me and some Hallmark movie about a hardass city kid that goes and lives with his WWII veteran grandfather.

im 2 edgy and deep to cry, I focus more on actual editing, plot and other things rather than just heart strings shit.
Also the books are way better than the movie.

I just saw The Hunger Games as well. I started to "hate" the movie before even watching it because all these retards were saying how good it is.
It really was a good movie though.
Did you cry when the black girl died?

It was that part... then she did the girl did the hand salute and the whole sector did it back and watching the black guy go crazy and I just couldn't hold it in anymore. lol

Saint I used to do that, but I find it much more entertaining to let yourself get into the movie and then maybe watch it again on dvd to be more critical. Unless it's something like Transformers where it is so bad you really can't get too into it.

Book are almost always better than the movies.

I loved that scene. I would've gone crazy too.
But what the only problem I have with this movie is why there never was a revolution before the games. Clearly the capitol cannot just eradicate all the districts, since they have The Hunger Games to sort of keep a peace. So why don't the people just start rioting and fuck them up?

Damnit Unschool... it seems me and my classmate where the only people under the age of what, 17 or so in the cinema who DIDN'T cry when Rue died. I was left ranting about the bread scene. Lionsgate could've done better there, seriously. It doesn't show that the girl is starving or the girl picking up the bread, it just shows her looking at a shop, then a guy comes out and throws a burnt piece of bread in the middle of the road.

It's sorta funny. It makes it look as if a burnt piece of bread in the middle of the road is dramatic, black and white, music and everything. I will spare your life in the Hunger Games because... YOU THREW A PIECE OF BREAD IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD A FEW YEARS AGO!!! SO DRAMATIC!!! *cries*

I know but the film makes it look as if a piece of bread in the road during the rain is more important than it is.

Actually that is one of the things I said after the movie.... maybe for a few years after the rebellion was put down, but 74 years? I doubt they'd be able to control them that long.

Rammstein, I kind of agree, I think the camera focused a tad bit too much on the bread.

At the end of Lost a little bit just because it was over.

I just saw it, didn't cry. Liked it, though. Especially the riot. Also, i dont think them not overthrowing the gov is that unrealistic. Look at north korea. A death lottery does seem a little unrealistic though.

This movie kind of sucked...seemed to fake to me. All the attempts to make it dramatic and sad didn't seem genuine enough
