RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Hug

Yeah, avoiding debt is a good idea. That whole "college will give you a good job" line doesn't work so well anymore.

Well, you could just make your plans and leave in the middle of the night and just leave them a note? Razz

Or just tell them. How do you think they'd react?

Well in that case, don't tell them until the last minute, or at least get everything all planned out and sorted first. Or leave a note. Razz

The more time they have to think about it the more bad vibes can fester in their brains and give them more time to try to discourage you.

Agree with soul.
The second you get the decision to set out on your on then your parents opinions no longer matter.. they don't have to like your decisions but as parents they should at least respect them and be supportive.

RE: A post in regards to my future.

OMG, Monkey, your post is the exact same way I'm thinking!! I cant take school anymore, 12 years of hell is ENOUGH!!! thank fucking goodness i only have 1 more month til I'm free, but I, too, have been scared about what my parents will think when they find out I wont go to college anymore, but since when do they really know what's good for me anyway?

I'm planning on doing the same thing, getting a place outside the city (dont know how, but I'll try), and getting a bunch of guns and growing veggies and basically being a prepper (because I KNOW this fucking economy is really dying and there's no real way to save it at this point because no one really wants to save it.) Ron Paul really does, but whos gonna let him?? NOBODY!!

Yeah, i think the note is a good advice, and at the last minute, too. Dont wanna get discouraged while the getting's good Smile

A little note on that, is after the national geographic series came out on prepper's it has really drawn a lot of attention to it. I can see alot of people going out to buy up emergency kits and long term food supplies. And that's going to drive the price up on supplies.

And the election season has really driven the price on guns way way the hell up. It's the election craze over politicians that are supposedly going to ban guns. And if you ask me it's just not a topic any politician is going to touch. Like abortion the trenches are dug on either side and it's best to remain neutral, gun laws come down to the state level.

And on a final note, thanks for the sentiment, glad to see someone sees things as I do.

Wow, well thats good in a way, more people actually know what's going on, and more people are gonna live through the shitstorm as a result. Idk about me, tho (o.o)
And ur welcome! Smile nice to see another person who thinks my same way too!
