RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Well, self diagnosing is not the smart alternative. But if you're really concerned about it consulting a professional would be the best route to go down. I can understand why you wouldn't want to, though. I wouldn't either.

RE: I believe I may be a psychopath

TA you are not a psychopath. Neither are you stadium.
There is a difference between antipathy and psychopathy.
I've seen both of you exhibit characteristics and emotions that psychopaths don't have. Not trying to knock you or say you're totally wrong about being somewhat weird in relation to others. I for one am intrigued by human suffering. I love snuff films and the like but that's because I get an extreme emotional reaction to it, Not really disgust or fear but I can relate to the pain and it's a very strong feeling, something that I like because of its novelty. Some would call me a psychopath but they would be wrong, The mere fact that I feel anything when seeing something like that proves that I'm not. In everyday life I'm more apathetic and egocentric than anything.

Obviously, there IS something wrong with you. Otherwise, it wouldn't have been treated in hospitals, madhouses, and whatever else you can think of.

hwat?

Psychopaths are intelligent, and don't normally succumb to any kind of delusions. (Except maybe of grandeur.) And I'm pretty sure, at base, sociopathy and psychopathy are the same thing. It's just that the people who call those types of people sociopaths are in a different branch of "medicine" than those who call them psychopaths.

http://blogs.psychcentral.com/forensic-f...ychopathy/

wikipedia Wrote:The World Health Organization's ICD incorporates a similar diagnosis of Dissocial Personality Disorder. Both the DSM and the ICD state that psychopathy (or sociopathy) are synonyms of their diagnosis.

wikipedia Wrote:Hare writes that the difference between sociopathy and psychopathy may "reflect the user's views on the origins and determinates of the disorder." The term sociopathy may be preferred by sociologists that see the causes as due to social factors. The term psychopathy may be preferred by psychologists who see the causes as due to a combination of psychological, genetic, and environmental factors.[28]
And shit.

So basically, same damn thing.

Also, I don't go to a psychiatrist. The school psychiatrist wanted to see me for some reason, and kept asking all of these questions, then said some shit about me being antisocial and blah blah you may have psychopathic tendencies blah blah. I don't give a fuck though, and I'm pretty sure I'm not anywhere near a full blown psychopath. I still have empathy, and feel for others. (Sometimes.) All I'm saying is I think I have "psychopathic tendencies", which can mean a lot of things.

We should look into stadium some more. If he at least thinks he is, we shouldn't let go by without checking at *least* checking him.

And of course I'm not a psychopath, I'm a sociopath.

Also, as your post pertains, you seem to also be forgetting that simply being a sociopath/psychopath doesn't mean you "have no feelings." Granted, however, my feelings are somewhat...dulled, I suppose you could say.

Also, you might consider a common tactic employed by a sociopath/psychopath is to make up emotional displays and stories in order to conjure up empathy from others. Personally? I don't feel a need for the approval of others, but it's nice to have any way, and could come in handy later.

The only exception to this is if you have a seizure, but then again, that's triggered by epilepsy (i.e. rapidly-changing flashing lights) NOT PTSD. Tell me about your emotions.

When you cried (if ever) what was it about? Did you ever cry for someone else? Ever cry for yourself?

Do you believe you have certain emotions you cannot 'feel'? Guilt? Love? Regret? Anything...?

If believe yourself to be a sociopath/psychopath, tell me about your upbringing. This will help us to determine if you're a genetic or environmental psychopath/sociopath. When someone died when you were young, if at all, did you get sad for them?

The only emotion I've ever felt intensely is anger, or frustration. I thought I knew what love was but googled that shit and realized I've never felt that about anyone. I care more about animals and objects than people.

When you cried (if ever) what was it about? Did you ever cry for someone else? Ever cry for yourself?
I've cried but really only when I was younger, because of pain or to make whatever I was saying more believable. Have I ever cried for someone else? No.

Do you believe you have certain emotions you cannot 'feel'? Guilt? Love? Regret? Anything...?
Well like I said I don't think I've ever felt real love. I regret things but only if it relates to me or could come back to me in some way. Read my op.

If believe yourself to be a sociopath/psychopath, tell me about your upbringing. This will help us to determine if you're a genetic or environmental psychopath/sociopath. When someone died when you were young, if at all, did you get sad for them?
A lot of members of my family have died when I was younger and it didn't really affect me. I acted like I cared and that it was a big deal like everyone else in my family, and I actually assumed the reason they were doing all of this was because that's what was accepted socially, so I just played along. But it didn't bother me that they died. I didn't need them for anything, and they were useless and old and just a drain of everyone else's money.

Hm...my upbringing. My whole life has lacked structure. My parents and other members of my family have fought over me for some reason I will never know. That's really the only thing I can think of that would be different than most people, and that's not really even that abnormal.

No, this is Patrick.

When you apologize for things (if at all) do you actually mean it?

How do you feel about fire?

Ever make up stories in order to get sympathy/empathy from other people?

Ever hurt animals?

Do you consider yourself intelligent, yet don't actually utilize your talents as best you could?

You prefer to be alone or in the company of others?

Scared of anything? Do you have at least one, almost...'overwhelming' phobia? Possibly something most would consider 'mundane'?

Ever lie to people even when you didn't need to?

I honestly can't think of one instance of meaning an apology.

How do you feel about fire?
I love fire a lot. I love making fires and how rewarding it is whenever you make it right and have a huge roaring fire in front of you. Sometimes I just light my lighters in my room and catch paper on fire just because I can

Ever make up stories in order to get sympathy/empathy from other people?
Very often actually.

Ever hurt animals?
I once shot a lizard and felt more guilt about that than I felt about anything I'd ever done to a person. I like animals a lot more than people.

Do you consider yourself intelligent, yet don't actually utilize your talents as best you could?
Yes. I spend all my time on the internet and getting high but I think I could do more but am too lazy to do so.

You prefer to be alone or in the company of others?
ALONE. I can't stress this enough. I enjoy the company of others for a while but it doesn't take long for everything they do to start to annoy me and make me want to hit them or snap at them and tell them to just shut the fuck up.

Scared of anything? Do you have at least one, almost...'overwhelming' phobia? Possibly something most would consider 'mundane'?
Spiders creep me the fuck out
Disease/death
Someone breaking into my house. I have told my grandparents' why they need a god damn alarm system and they just laugh it off like intruders in their home are no big deal. A lot of times at night I have trouble falling asleep because people have tried to break into the window in my room before. I sleep with a knife near me.

Ever lie to people even when you didn't need to?
Yes it's fun and amuses me

No, this is Patrick.

RE: I believe I may be a psychopath

Well I'm not sure there's much more to ask. I personally believe you may very well be a psychopath/sociopath. Though, that guilt of that lizard thing may show at least some morsel of empathy for animals. Even so, you may have a more mild version of either sociopathy/psychopathy when it comes to that, but not all of us are the same. The diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders itself classifies the lack of a conscience as the only thing you actually need to be either a sociopath/psychopath.

Do you think this could be genetic or environmental?

I've come to believe that my biological grandfather is a psychopath or something because of all the seriously dick moves he has pulled. So most likely genetic. I'm probably just narcissistic with some form of psychopathy or something. I don't really think I have a conscience. What would most people say a conscience even is? "That voice in your head that tells you when you shouldn't do something"? Yeah I don't get that I weigh the pros and cons of every action, if the possible punishment isn't worth the reward I don't do it.
The lizard thing, I just felt...I don't know, like it was a pointless thing to do and I fucked up that thing's whole life just for the sake of fucking with it. If it were a person though, ehh, I couldn't really see myself as caring too much. I feel like animals are more innocent (not the right word at all) than humans.

There is a difference between being a sociopath and a psychopath as well. You guys like to group those together like they are one in the same. Psychopaths have no real feelings to speak of. Only things such as greed and anger, feelings linked directly to themselves, because they are totally unable to relate to other humans. Sociopaths on the other hand are anti-social not because they don't have feelings. They can empathize with others but the feelings are often dulled or don't work the same way as a "normal" person.

RE: I believe I may be a psychopath

everyone has psychopathic tendencies. Someone who is a psychopath CAN manipulate people ( could but i have no reason to) and CAN Lie straight to people's faces (could do it but no reason to, lying would make my life more difficult than what it needs to be, it makes it harder to manipulate people if they knew you lie, and about the manipulation part i don't need to manipulate anyone currently because I don't need people to do things for me), they often are narcisstic and have a hard time feeling certain emotions (I can only feel love, sadness, anger and indifference, everything else doesn't happen anymore.) My ability to be angry is actually diminshing. And they also lack morals. I am not a psychopath.
SA I doubt you are a psychopath, especially because psychopaths don't go telling people they are psychopaths. They would probably ignore all of the signs of psychopathy.

Well everyone is different I s'pose. Who knows whats really going on, huh...?

Hidden stuff:
TRIGGER WARNING: THIS TRIGGER WARNING CONTAINS TRIGGER WARNINGS!

Dear Tumblrites: Despite your wrongly self-diagnosed PTSD, no line of scientific evidence suggests people can be triggered over the internet. Triggering works through the senses (i.e. smell, taste, touch, vision, hearing.) but it goes through real time; if you're not experiencing it in real life as it's ACTUALLY HAPPENING in your ACTUAL life, you CANNOT be triggered. The only exception to this is if you have a seizure, but then again, that's triggered by epilepsy (i.e. rapidly-changing flashing lights) NOT PTSD. Remembering a bad incident is NOT the same thing as having a flashback. When you remember, you think; when you flashback, you feel.
